rv insurance

Will be buying a 2014 Unity rv next Monday. Any info on insurance you like would be appreciated.

my advice:

talk to your insurance company to see what is covered under your TV policy then see what else you need. that way you will only need to add and pay for coverage your exisiting policy doesn't cover.

In our case we have state farm. TV policy covers liability and property damage while the trailer is connected to the tow vehicle. for $90/year we get comprehensive plus coverage for liability when the trailer is disconnected.

Had one claim for a roof tear, SF paid to have the roof membrane replaced, didn't raise the rate.

Anyhow why don't you check with your parent company (if you have a lot bundled up on it) and see what it would cost to add on the camper?

Never a rv claim but on both car & house and State Farm took care of us.
From another perspective, how low in value is the RV worth full coverage ? Our 2011 5er worth less than half what it was new, is it worth the comprehensive coverage ? Liability is another issue but I am probably over insured in most typical snafu's .

We've been satisfied with the service and premiums from Progressive for our motorhome. And they do offer fulltimers coverage...

We are in south Florida so many companies do not cover us for house, cars and RV. We check all insurance companies and have different policies for home cars and RV. Go online and get quotes.

We have also had State Farm on house and auto for years. Added the RV when we bought it. They have never questioned any claim including a rather large one on the Monte last year when I almost ripped off the rear cap on a steel column.

Things to think about. Personal property inside the RV, if there is a claim does your homeowners have to cover it and then you have two deductibles. Are your permanent attachments covered at replacement cost or a depreciated value? Think about your awning. Liability at the campsite? How is that covered? Do you put it in storage during the winter? Will your carrier give you a break on the premium during that time? Most auto carriers that write RV's don't offer RV coverage's. Keith Director of Good Sam Insurance Agency

Will you be full-time? If not, check with your regular auto insurer. If you need full-timers coverage that will be different than most auto insurers can provide.
