Has anyone had any experience towing a '15 Lincoln MKZ? Any problems that you have encountered or difficulties?

I am currently towing an '05 Dodge Dakota but would like to be able to seat more than 2 adults when we are traveling.

Thanks!!

Thanks to everyone for their comments and input. After some reflection, and getting a quote for the set-up (base plate, tow bar, wiring kit, etc.), I think I am leaning toward a tow dolly. I think it will be a lot less hassle and expense. Thanks again for all your thoughts.

We have a 2014 MKZ Hybrid that is towable 4 down, but, it is too low to be towed with safety. Even if it had better clearance, the places we like to visit require quite a bit more clearance than the MKZ can give. We have a Grand Vatara and CRV for towing.

Apparently "wildmanbaker" does a lot of off road towing so considers his MKZ "to low to tow". We also have a 2014 Lincoln MKZ hybrid and have towed it over 10,000 miles without any issues except a dead battery a couple of times. Have learned to monitor it more closely now and haven't had that problem in a couple of years. The MKZ tows great and it's sure nice to have to use for sightseeing when we're camped - - economical and comfortable!
I agree with everything you have said about the MKZ, great car. The front air dam is the problem with clearance. It will drag on parking lot entrances and parking stops. Not all RV parks are well groomed. I have one floor jack that can fit underneath it, but it is sealed in on the bottom so it is hard to know where to place it for lifting. Some areas of National Parks are kind of iffy also. You know, I wonder what's down this road? When we got the MKZ, I started looking for a base plate and another braking system, and the DW asked what I was doing. I told her the MKZ is towable 4 down, so I was going to set it up for towing. She told me to think about where we go, and some of the places we tend to camp, and said the Lincoln would be hung-up a lot of the time, she was right again. Oh by the way, ours weight over 4,200 pounds, kind of porky.

I have a 2011 MKZ, and a few others on the forum do also. Mine is a hybrid, and can be towed 4 down, but the engine needs to be run periodically which is a pain. I decided against it because some others that have tried it ended up with dead batteries. It also makes for a heavy toad if weight is an issue for you. It can be done, but there's some grief involved. I ended up getting a Kia Soul manual tranny. It's a good little car for the purpose.

Mr. Pinky,

Look in the owner's manual to see what the instructions say about towing behind a motorhome.

In my opinion, you are in a perfect position to purchase a vehicle that can be towed four down from the factory. I would not go to the expense of buying something that would need alteration like buying from Remco. It's just more added expense.

Motorhome Magazine's towing guide from 2015 says that the Lincoln MKZ and MKZ Hybrid are towable four down.

The thing about towing a sedan is that they sit lower to the ground than a SUV. My thoughts are if you have to straddle something in the road in the motorhome, you don't want it getting hung up under the toad. As I'm sure you know, you will be dodging stuff from time to time from tire rubber to things that have fallen off trucks/cars from bad loading.

Safe travels,
MM.

Lincolns have to be treated very carefully when towing. EVEN IF ON A TRAILER.. Now 17 years ago I had access to folks who know how but even if you trailer it you have special precautions you need to take.

Ford. as someone pointed out. says "Can't tow it wheels down" but.. Dodge says the same about my towed and I've towed it thousands of miles with no problems.. Thanks to Remco Towing (Link in somebody else's response). They are the experts.

Ford says No. Look in the owners manual. I did and download it. It also says NO for the FWD and All Wheel Drive. Remco also shows No.

So what I have found is different than others. So you should do your own research and make your choice. Don't see how you can compare different Vehicle and years and come up with a comparison.
