Been away from RVing for 4-5 years. Looking into getting another one.
A little background:
Our fist rv was a 1983 Reagal 28ft TT bought used. Since then we have owned four 5th wheels with the last being a Prowler Lynx (huge lemon!).
In the past my father pushed us into going with 5th wheels because of size and sway factors he had in the past. However, our first TT with a single sway bar towed well. Our last 5th wheel (lemon!) wouldn't track straight from day one.
I currently have a 20ft cargo trailer that I tow with toys and tools without an equalizer or sway control. Tracks perfect even in wind gusts.
Current truck is 2012 Dodge 2500 CCSB 4x4.
My wife and I are looking at a V-Cross Platinum 32vfks TT. Has best floor plan for us. Trailer weighs 7500 lbs dry, 11,300 lbs gross, with a 950 lbs tongue weight.
I still have my drawtite hitch, round weight bars, and sway control from the first trailer. All in good condition. Use the hitch with my cargo trailer.
I was thinking of just using two sway bars, but am wondering about the equalizer bars. 1,500 lbs just barely levels out the 2500 truck. I know on 5th wheels that the combination of high hitch weight and hitch pin near the rear axle is what combats sway. However, my father discovered recently that having the 5th ride high in the front (light hitch) makes the trailer sway like crazy (he just bought a new dually).
Any thoughts?
