I have a 2022 6.6 gas, 3500 CC, SRW. As stated above, it only comes with the 3.73 gears, no 4.10. I was a little worried about this, but I am please with performance.
I do not tow a heavy trailer. To date, I have towed a 7.5k travel trailer and it towed beautifully. The "tow" mode keeps the transmission from hunting and it is very quiet. Gas mileage is 14 mpg, compared to 10.5 for the 6.0
The new truck is significantly quieter than my 2019 3500 with the 6.0.

To bad GM doesn't want to spend the R&D to upgrade the old Rat Motors.

My 96 7.4L has 410 ft/lb torque & 290 HP, but limited to about 3.8K RPM. The 8.1L/496 inch cubic inches of displacement, is rated between 320 to 340 horsepower and 440 to 455 lb-ft of torque depending on the model year.

Torque which isn't must different than the new Ford 7.3L : Horsepower is 430 at 5500 rpm, with 475 pound-feet of torque cresting at 4000 rpm

Think if GM decided to redesign the heads for direct injection and up the valve train to be rated to around 4.5K-5K RPM, it would match or exceed the Ford 7.3L

Toss in compression ignition, cam and it would be a screamer like my old L88.

Plus, think (more hope than anything) it might not be that dirty of an engine smog wise

But...GM hasn't seen enough demand to spend the bucks to to that...now if an independent would come out with an upgrade kit...I'd be instantly in line

The new 6.6 gas I'm pretty sure only has 3.73 gearing, not option for the 4.10.
I was waiting on the 6.6gas to come out, but after reading about it, I held off. The towing reviews have not been great, and it seems they have alot of torque management on it.
I've decided to go with a Ford, their new 7.3gas seems to be a beast, and it has a 10 speed. TFL did a tow test with both trucks, and the Ford blew the Chevy away. On the same road the Chevy got down to 40mph with 14k lbs, and the Ford held the speed limit of 60mph with 16k lbs, and still had pedal left.
I've been driving a Chevy for 20 years, and was really disappointed with what I've seen of the 6.6 gas. I think if they had put an 8-10spd trans that could handle the power and not have to limit the power, and offered 4.10's it would be a great truck, but GM messed up.

^ But add $500 plug and play tuner to the Lily and itโ€™ll blow the doors off of the new gasser. Reliably.

Actually, including the lower first gear behind the 6.6, lower axle gear of 4.10 option, the 6.6 has as much or more torque hitting the ground than you 05 D/A combo.
Other than passing fuel stations, the gas motor would be and is a good option.
If you're at higher elevations ie I've 5-6k alot, the diesel would be better. Only because it is a forced induction motor. Put a supercharger on it, elevation power loss is not an issue.
The newer gas motors are good power houses as compared to past motors. My 4.3 V6 with a 6sp auto pulls every but as hard or better than the 4bbl/TBI 454 BB gas motors I've had. The 6.6 has more HP/torque yet.
Other than the brain electron between my or your ears that diesels are better.....
These newer motors are good options.

Mine is a bone stock LLY. Transmission has never been apart. Engine has never been apart. Original turbo, injectors, etc. When I had the TC I was 1,600 pounds over GVWR and pulling a boat. When I'm working I've had it up to almost 26,000 Gross combination and it's only rated for 23,000. I have no complaints.
Spending an additional $10,000 on the diesel and then having to buy fuel filters and DEF is a tough decision.

^Is your lb7 or lily bone stock? If so, the gasser wonโ€™t be a huge disappointment. Only a small one.
If youโ€™re tuned, the gasser will feel like a turd, comparativelyโ€ฆwhen towing heavy.

I hope to see some good responses here. I asked the same question on the GM truck forum Diesel Place months ago and got very little response.
My own 2005 Chevy Duramax dually is nearing 300,000 miles and I know I need to replace it. I'm on the fence about getting a diesel again. The new 3500 gas has higher axle ratings, higher GVWR, higher GCWR, more HP, and an extra gear in the transmission than my current truck. The only thing is I'd have less torque. I really wonder if the extra HP and extra gear would make up for the difference.

The 6.6 gas has 464 lb.-ft. of torque. The diesel has 910 lb.-ft. of torque. It's your choice.
