Our Unified Tow Brake is not keeping the toad battery charged anymore. Noticed that 20 amp fuse to toad battery was blown. What could have caused this, wet weather affect 12 volt systems? Advice?

My kit has a circuit breaker. I am not sure of the size but fuses cannot handle any surges or harsh environments.

I am not sure why fuse instead of circuit breaker, the installer installed the fuse, which I guess was supplied in the kit. I reinstalled a new fuse and towed successfully in dry weather. So not sure what happened yet. Maybe the fuse weakened over time and simply needed to be replaced? Thx for all the replies!:-)

Why are you using a fuse in that line. Doesn't it call for a circuit breaker??

If the toad battery is being charged from the MH and you let the toad battery get very low, maybe the battery was drawing more than 20A from the MH. That would blow the fuse in the charge line from the MH.

Check the cable between the RV and the toad if they are electrical connectors, also check the RV connector, when they get wired they never seal them properly and water will get inside and cause a short, the other possible cause is a pulled out wire from one of the receptacles on the cable plugs causing the short.

This is for an electrical wire connection where there is an umbilical cord from the RV to the towed vehicle.
