uninsured moterist rant

DD's car was creamed by an uninsured driver. Good news she was not hurt.
Bad news, other driver had no insurance. So end of the day, will end up costing the DD about 500 bucks. Thing is she is a single MOM works hard.

In my opinion I see very little difference between this an a robbery, on the part of the uninsured driver. That driver will never pay a dime, and just skate

Yep, I know all about small claims court, and also letting the INS co trying to collect. Other two DD's are attorneys. Thing is you can take them to small claims win, but the court will not enforce the judgment. So in real terms it is meaningless

End of the day this is not an end of the world thing, and putting in prospective is a very small deal But still kind of PO's me

Courts have ruled that any person out in public has no right to privacy. Snap away with that camera, no permission needed.
If the guy had gotten violent, do you think telling him that "any person out in public has no right to privacy", would make him stop...

That would involve a personal choice, not a legal responsibility.
Small comfort to the person on the receiving end.

If you ever have suffered through the sudden loss or serious injury you will grasp that "it's only money". The legal system can only do so much to impose personal responsibility on everyone.
Be glad no one is hurt and press on

Europe is always 30 years ahead of our idiot policy producers.
Tag numbers are permanently tied to you.
Your tags and insurance are paid at the same company, let your insurance lapse and you get your plates repossessed in a day, pay big fines to get them back.
Don't get issued another plate either.

Take their license, impound their car unfortnally that does nothing to help the guy who's car was hit. An old neighbor of mine was hit on the freeway in CA and the guy took off so the neighbor chased him down and called the CHP. The CHP came and ask him 'what do you want me to do' and of course my neighbor said arrest him for hit and run. The CHP said I can do that but he will be out of jail before you get home

There are a lot of insurance companies that advertise things like $20.00 gets you insurance" For about 2 days

I guess insurance companies must evaluate incidents like this on a case-by-case basis. I was rear ended on the freeway by an uninsured driver. My insurance company (Hartford through AARP) told me right from the time I reported the accident that they would wave my deductible and pursue reimbursement from the other driver. I was never told whether they ever collected.

If your insurance can collect back from the at fault uninsured party, you will receive your $500 deductible back.

My wife was hit from behind by a south of the border man. she was hurt and the new T-bird had a lot of damage. We had to pay $100.00 because no insurance from him but our insurance paid the rest. I asked why do we have to pay and not him so the answer was we have to treat him different. Same here new insurance company.

When we first towing a TT in the US, we were told adding under-insured motorist protection (aka "UMP" in BC) to our policy was basically a must because of the number of under-insured drivers on the roads.

DW once got hit in a grocery store parking lot. She got out and casually started to take photos with her phone. The guy went ape-sh**t. Turned out he had stolen plates on his car. The cops and our gov't insurance co. were able to track him down so we didn't have to pay the deductible. Luckily he didn't get violent. Moral of story - ask the other driver if it's okay to take photos first. :R

Having to deal with a motor vehicle insurance company has to be one of the hardest things you'll ever have to deal with in life.
