Water Pumps

Last year we replaced our Shur-Flo water pump while in the Adirondacks. Needless to say, water pumps are not plentiful in the mountains. We are thinking of having a spare. I was only able to grab the one they had available. Seems to work well. Pumps out more than the previous one. Any suggestions on which Shur-Flo models are better than another model?

I bought a spare Shurflo 2088 to use as a water transfer pump to pump water from the tank and barrels in the back of the truck to refill the trailer tank. I mounted it to a small plastic cutting board and added the fittings I needed for connecting my hoses. In an emergency I can either swap it or just leave it connected the the tank in the truck and connect it to the city water connenction powered directly off the batteries on the trailer tongue or spare deep cycle in the truck bed.

What part of the pump quit ? As long as the motor runs you can (or used to be able to ) buy a kit to repair the pump part.

Why carry the extra weight and use up the storage space ?

Sure I would rather carry 1 lb extra weight, than spend 2X the cost of the pump to overnight. My sureflo lasted 10 years, but it quit on a desert 4x4 trip and no pouring 2 gallons of water over the wife in the shower wasn't all that much fun for a couple days.

My 1993 TT has the original Sureflo pump in it . I understand that they may be hard to find in the area where you go camping but, is it necessary to carry a spare when they are so reliable ? If your does go out can't you order one on-line and have it over night shipped to some place close by ?

I carry a spare Shurflo that was a failed pump from another RV. The motor was ok, so I just replaced the pump head for about $50. If the housing hadn't split from freezing, I probably could have rebuilt just the inside for a bit less money.

I bought a SeaFlow off Ebay $59 works great and is quite, same specs as the SurFlow.
