You know, the most memorable places you have enjoyed a great meal while you've been on the road. #1. We went to Gaidos in Galveston TX. and I had a fantastic seafood platter, the wife had their prime rib. Fantastic. Nice place with interesting history. The bread pudding for dessert was the absolute best I have EVER had.

#2 was Taste of Louisiana Cafรฉ in Denham Springs LA. Its a little town outside of Baton Rouge. Here I had a smoked sausage Po'boy and wife had a French dip sandwich. Now, this place is a cute little hole in the wall in a quaint antique store filled down town type of burg. What an unexpected treat this place was. Food was fantastic and the people were wonderful. Dessert was a blue berry cheese cake parfait and wow, I wanted to lick the cup it came in. People at a table over from us heard us saying how good it was and tried to order one. We got the last one.

So what gems have you found??

Best rib eye steak I have ever had was at Meridy's steak house in Russell Kansas right off I 70.

Best meal I have had anywhere in the world was at Le Francais in Wheeling IL. They had a Mobil 5 star rating and a Beard Award. Closed in 2003 I understand.

Outside Atlanta.

The outside of the restaurant looks like a diner. Can't remember the name but the FOOD! Outstanding and copious amounts.

When they started serving us the first plate they brought out we thought it was for all 6 of us. It turned out to be a single order!

Food was better than any fine dining restaurant I have been in and the deserts? Well, the size of those individual orders were equally as crazy large!

With food that good and the experience so great, you'd think I could remember the name of the restaurant! :W
Sounds like The Marietta Diner! great food and huge portions including desserts. Not what you expect from the shiny exterior.

IHOP in small town Alabama, not too long ago.

Late on a Saturday night we pulled into an IHOP for dinner. Aside from the two of us there was a large and rowdy crowd of 10 or 12 young adults who had been partying the night away. They were loud, obnoxious and rude to the lone waitress. She was an older woman who moved a little slowly and we could tell should have retired a long time ago. With a forced smile and grace she put up with the snot nosed brats. As they walked out the door she picked up the tab. We watched from across the restaurant, she bowed her head, closed her eyes as her shoulders sank. The kids had stiffed her on the tip.

The DH nodded when I slid a $100 bill under the ketchup bottle.

Good meals come in many forms.
Brought a smile to my face as well.

I would have a hard time calling Waffle House great, but to me they are comfort food. I enjoy a pecan waffle side of ham and some mediocre coffee.

The absolute best steak I ever had was back in the early 70s at a little bar south of Grand Island, Nebraska, perhaps 3 miles or so north of the interstate. No atmosphere whatsoever, but that steak just melted in my mouth. Unfortunately, several years after that, when we wanted to stop there, we couldn't find it - it was just gone. ๐Ÿ˜ž

We're snowbirds in central FL and found a sports bar called Terry's Sports Bar & Restaurant that makes the most awesome subs. I little down the road, in the little village of Reddick, is a small, quaint restaurant called M&J's cafรฉ with a buffet, with everything homemade, which is also at the top of our list. Sure wish we had places like these up home.

Buddy's in Annapolis up on the second floor overlooking the harbor. Best seafood meal ever... we got the huge sampler plates, one steamed one fried and everything was awesome. A couple of cold Landshark Lagers to wash it all down also worked well.

A very close second was the BBQ at Hodies in Dalhart Texas. Never had better, the entries were huge and what ever you a ordered came with: fries, beans, coleslaw, Texas Toast and cornbread. For about $12 lunch was easily two meals, one there and a big box of leftovers for the road.
