When I read reviews on rvreviews.com. It seams most always mention work campers ect. as if it was a bag thing. Near all campgrounds have some work campers. I agree some of them get pretty trashy. They are generally in a different part of the RV Park and not scattered among the over nighters. Being a work camper is a necessary thing for some types of jobs

Wife and I managed an RV park for two years. Yes, we were workcampers. Also had many work campers who stayed long term in the park. Like others have said it is up to the Park management and/or owners to keep all area presentable.
The park we managed the owner had one area near the office set aside for nightly and weekly stays. The rest of the site were all long term. Anywhere from a few months to several years. More importantly we were very strict on keeping the sites picked up and not have external storage facilities set up on the sites. Even to the point that we did not allow skirting on the RV, not even during the winter months. The reason was simple. Some people will buy and use nice skirting, other want to use hay bales, planks of plywood and who knows what else they might come up with. Also skirting seems to encourage people to begin using the area under the trailer for storage of any variety of junk. We did on rare occasion have some one leave as a result of no skirting. On the other hand because of our consciences efforts we were always rate 9's and 10's by the Good Sam folks.

We were fulltimers for 7 years. We workcamped for 5 of those years. We Some parks we worked at had fulltime workers who worked in the area, & some had seasonal sites where people stayed for many months, & some had many transient campers who came & went pretty quickly. We always met very nice people who all cared to be good neighbors. Sometimes younger people who had lots of energy would maybe party too loudly, but no one ever was nasty. If asked they would quiet down. People in campers are generally in a good natured mood, & I believe are good people. We only worked at one park that didn't particularly care about how they treated their workcampers. The reason was they were bad managers. They lost their job. Please don't be afraid of workcamping. It's a great way to supplement your income. We met many great people who became long time friends. We settled in Arizona for now, but I'd like to go back to fulltiming. Have fun.

I believe the OP is referring to workers use campgrounds as a residence while having jobs outside the campground.

Full-timers and workcampers are broad terms that cover lots of different people with different goals and lifestyles.

As an example - the DW and I decided to go full-time last fall. We bought a new TT specifically focused on living in it full-time, not weekend camping.

We prefer park like settings - state parks, COE, USFS, BLM, national parks - if possible. We do stay in commercial parks, mostly with our GS group, or when traveling across country.

In south and west Texas - commercial parks are full of oil-field workers. Those folks full-time. Their 'campsites' are setup for them to be there for months.

They are not campers. Their RV is their home, but the primary focus is not traveling and enjoying the road. Their focus is having a place to stay while on the job. And being able to move to a new job quickly.

They are Working Folks, not WorkCampers.

RV Reviews tend to be by folks who travel for pleasure, and expect a lot of service.

They also don't want to be placed next to someone who is going to get up at 5:30am, fire up a big loud diesel pickup and head out to work. Who has a few beers after a long hot day, comes home after dark to sleep and isn't worried about the appearance of his trailer. Or who has three kids living in a 35 ft 5er, who need to go to school. And to be entertained after school. Or mom using the laundry for 10 loads of clothes, including very dirty work clothes, every two days.

Our home GS groups camps each year at three different commercial RV parks which have a lot of full-time working oil field folks. All these parks set the long-term residents in one area, and the temporary travelers in another area. It works well to keep the two groups on opposite ends of the property.

We will be traveling I-10 from west Texas to near San Antonio in a couple days - and we will stay at state parks vice commercial parks - just to ensure a good
night's sleep.

I don't think a Work Camper has anything to do with being trashy. Any campground that allows anyone long term use invites a more cluttered look. Long term parking for those who then leave during the day and go to work away from the park, I don't consider as work campers.

Sounds to me like we are not all on the same page. I wonder if hotpepper was referring to a work camper who works in the campground as opposed to a camper who goes to work at an offsite job.
Both retired. Travel with Nicky the Schnoodle. Son graduated and is teaching high school math. We still love our 2006 34' Allegro Bay XB and have 50,000+ miles on her.

Any CG that allows work campers or any type of campers get trashy is having financial or management problems IMO.

" I agree some of them get pretty trashy. They are generally in a different part of the RV Park and not scattered among the over nighters"

Just which are you referring to? :H

Work campers....do work around cg for free site. Usually just a seasonal 'job'

Permanents/long term....living in an rv on site. Paying for site---might be work camper also.

As if it matters....as long as CG is clean/maintained
Is it time for your medication or mine?
