Working for Delaware North at Yellowstone

I was wondering if anyone has worked at Yellowstone for a summer. I've gotten a job with Delaware North. I will have a site at Grant Village in West Yellowstone, & work at a restaurant. Since I'm on my own I wanted to double check if anyone has any information about working for this company or staying at Grant Village. Thanks

We worked for DNC in 2011 at Canyon Village. Loved our time in Yellowstone, what an opportunity!
I had been in retail for many years and worked my way to District Manager. I was all gun Ho on usual retail business- beating last year sales, raising your average sale, etc. we learned quickly that they don't really care.
If the customer buys or not buys, we were just supposed to ring the sales up. And things are going to stay 'that way because that's the way it was done last year'.
Once I got over trying to help them make more money or be efficient, it was fine. ( literally moving the garbage can closer to where people emptied their creamers/ sugar was a no-no)
They have a weird shift every other week. You are on morning then not til late in the day. Kind of wasted your whole day instead of just straight 8 hrs.
It was pretty easy, nice people, great park, good pay for what we did, nice campsites. I would work for them again.
Have fun!

DNC is one of the largest entertainment and hospitality companies in the world. They provide these services in National Parks, most major league baseball parks, many SP, several service center on the NYS Thruway. Their headquarters is in Buffalo, NY. They have locations around the world as well.

They are very guest orientated. I have never worked for them in a park setting, but did work for 6 years in a racino (racetrack, gaming casino) in NY as an EMS/Security Manager. They are typical of most other large service companies. It was a great place to work the first 3 years, but when the economy started it's downturn, it got a little more stressful. Since they are a money making privately (family) held corporation when the amount of visitors goes down the stress goes up.

It might be a wonderful experience working with them in that location. On your off time you can have some great adventures.

I didn't work for DNC but I did spend 3 months at Grant Village in 2012. It is a quiet spot compared to the rest of the park. It's not a far ride to Jackson Hole to the south. No bison but lots of elk and a few random bear. Beautiful sunrises over the lake.

Good luck and have fun

Hi! Amazon partners with DNC @ Yellowstone to hire working campers. You work in Yellowstone until September then work for us the rest of the year. I know many of our campers have worked there before - if you look up Amazon CamperForce on Facebook, you can ask if any of the members (we have almost 900 members) has ever worked there before and would they tell you what their experience is.

As a partner, they are a great company to work with and the campers I met at Yellowstone all seemed to like their jobs there. My only advice? Watch out for HAIL - when I was visiting last year for just 3 days I was hailed on twice!

Good luck & safe travels,
PamelaP

We are being considered for Bridge Bay ranger station volunteer position(s) ... any experience out there, suggestions or input?

While it's not definite, YET ... we're hoping for the volunteer opportunity of a lifetime! Just waiting for the call from Ranger Jackie ...

Although I haven't worked for this company, or lived in the park recently, I did work in the park many years ago, and it has shaped much of my life since. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you find you enjoy your time there as much as I did! Delaware North is a reputable company that specializes in "hospitality"; don't be surprised if old "savages" like me refer to the place you're working as Hamilton's (or Ham's for short) - that's the old name for what is now termed "Yellowstone General Stores."

I know there is at least one person on this forum who has worked for them in the last few years, and I believe has worked at Grant, in fact. Can't remember offhand who that is, but I hope they chime in. Congrats on the job, and have a great time with it!
