We are planning to head to the Black Hills and area the first week in July. I was wondering what a good centralized RV park would be. I would like to get to Mt Rushmore, Deadwood, Bedrock City etc. Really we want to see what we can in the time that we will have. We have a 40' Alfa if that becomes a factor. Thanks for the help.

The state parks in SD are beautiful. You can find all the information on their website. gfp.sd.gov
The Game Lodge is one of the most peaceful and scenic areas in the park in my opinion.

Does anybody know anything about Game Lodge Campground in Custer State Park? We have reservations in August (after the bike thing).

Rafter J worked great for us two summers ago. The area is huge and their will be lots of driving no matter where you stay, if you want to see everything.

We might have been there at the same time.. I was there on June 20-22. I think this campground was my favorite during my coast-to-coast vacation. There were other campgrounds that had better facilities, but the staff was the best I've ever seen.

I really enjoyed Big Pine Campground when I was at Rushmore last summer.

Great campground, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.

I stayed at Whistlers a few years ago. Nice park in kind of a valley. Clean, nice pool, iirc. Also recall it being on the trolley route. Just outside of town. Enjoy your Deadwood stay!

Well, I was able to book at Whistlers Gulch in Deadwood, from the website it seems like a decent park, close to town, and close enough to all the other attractions we want to see. Now I just hope the weather is nice.

I agree... Palmer Gulch is great. We have stayed in the campground and we have also stayed in their lodge.

Very family oriented. Lots to do! Nice restaurant (nice bar too). Also very close to all the Black Hills other activities.

Hill City http://www.palmergulch.com/ is great. Pool, water slide, bounce pillow and don't forget the awesome pancake tent.

This state has BEAUTIFUL state parks that offer huge sites and great camping. But keep in mind that they are electric only. No water hookups.
We are going next month and we are staying at Spokane Creek Resort which is in Keystone. Another fairly centralized place. Your length is a factor at some places but most importantly in your travel. Wherever you book make sure you call them and ask about directions. I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT RELY ON GPS. There are roads through the Black Hills that will not accommodate your rig. On the Spokane Creek reservation email I received it specifically gave directions and said do not use GPS as you will end up on sections of road that have turns and too tight for most large rigs.

Here is where we are going. http://www.spokanecreekresort.com/

Make reservations asap to get your best choice of sites. The first week in July is the busiest of the year for families.
The new site for combined private & state camps is www.campgroundsd.com
It is live now, but not yet found by all search engines.

We're going back to The Beaver Lake Campground in Custer this summer. The grand kids really like the pool & waterside. We really like it!

X2 Rafter J, and Hill City is fairly central to those places you've mentioned. Have a great trip to one of my favorite areas!
