Anal Sac Adenocarcinoma Question For Dr. Doug

My dog Indiana is diagnosed with Anal Sac Adenocarcinoma. Our vet refers us to see an Oncologist due to the size of the lump which he wouldn't attempt to remove it himself. He could give him an ultrasound to check his lymph nodes for any spreading of the cancer but we would be better off to see the specialist instead of wasting more time. While we are waiting for an opening early next week to see the specialist, DD checked on the internet to see what the odds are. Some site suggested it's a rare form of cancer and concluded that he's a goner. And she's been crying eversince every time Indiana is near her. DW was losing sleep since the news broke.
My question to Dr. Doug: What are the odds for an 8 y.o. Lab for this disease? Our vet mentioned the Calcium level in his bloodwork is still low which is a positive. He hasn't lost appetite nor showing any discomfort. Only tell-tale sign was his ribbon pooh.

I've had several of these over the years (it is a pretty rare cancer), and so much depends on how localized the tumor is. If there is spread, the aim is to give as much quality time as possible.

I've had a couple that have been isolated to the gland and surgical removal was curative with no chemo after.

Discuss all this with the oncologist, but don't give up hope.
