Oh, wait......are they ALL heart dogs?

When Poquita left us, I thought nothing could ever be so painful again. Then a couple of days ago, Rosie was growling at Darcy for some perceived doggy infraction. This action triggered severe spasms in Rosie's collapsing trachea and we held her, really thinking this might be "The End." I crushed a pill, mixed it with a dab of butter and smeared it in her mouth, and we got her back. All of a sudden I realized, "Who am I kidding? It will hurt just as much to lose Rosie, whose personality is uniquely hers. As much as we love them, that's how much as it hurts when they're gone. It's just the price of admission to the pet lovers club.

Judy they are...when I lost my Sofie almost seven years ago I could barely stand it because she was my heart dog, then three years ago I lost my beautiful Zachery and I was totally lost because he was my heart dog too.

I can think of a dozen others over the last forty years that just totally broke my heart because they were also my heart dogs.

We only had one that I did not shed a tear for and I did not miss a bit, that was our Dalmation, Casey, he dropped dead on his ninth birthday, my DH cried that night and I cried for his loss because Casey was his heart dog.

I think this is just the way it is when all us animal lovers, who love them so deeply, lose them....

And now we have Lucy & Bubba and guess what...yup, heart dogs!

Everyone of my Collies has been special, Andy had the most health problems. The medical school in MN said Andy would be lucky to live 6 months. K-State medical school said Andy would be lucky to live to 5 years. Andy lived to 10 years old and was always happy, he was the Will Rogers of Collies liked everyone.

When you add up all the delight/laughter/love/protection they give us - it still far outweighs the heartache of losing them. I just can't imagine being dogless... it's one of the things I like about the place where my Dad the Dog Lover lives. Even with Alzheimers, he still knows that he loves dogs - and they have 2!
