Patches, the Angel Dog!

One day Patches, the monster dog, magically turned into the perfect little canine citizen!
No more accidents in the house!
Very little biting, and getting better every day.
With the exception of my brand new underwear he has destroyed nothing that wasn't his to destroy!

I just can't describe what a joy he has become!! He has become especially gentle with me, as he must be so he doesn't hurt me, it's as if he knows.

I just love that silly dog. And to think, I was so ready to give up on him. He has converted me to a BC lover!

But at 8 to 10 months you will be able to provide access to something that will totally satisfy your dog physically and mentally: working livestock. Ten minutes of this will wipe out your dog easier than anything you can do with your dog.

While you have your dog's attention teach as much as you can (down, sit , stay, walking on leash, leave it, house rules like off the furniture, off the counters, etc) and work on proofing the recall.

Ugh. The teen years! LOL I think we'll be able to handle it, as long as he doesn't forget his house training!

Here's hoping this is an early shift into adolescence... if not, he may undergo another shift at eight months or so and then it's teenager time.

Once they calm down you can see the instinct to figure out what their owners want them to do (biddability).

You really should come join us over on the BCBoards. Where there are lots of folks who love this breed (for what it is) with a wide range of backgrounds (pet, sport, working sheepdogs, and working cattledogs).

How wonderful! You just had to wait for Patches to grow up, kind of like human kids. :W I, too, am so glad you didn't give up on him.
