A/C Problems

I have a 1999 Newmar fifthwheel and the AC stopped blowing cold air. Had a mobile mechanic come and of course, wanted to replace it. Here in Las Vegas it is 100 degrees, so not much wiggle room. The problem is the unit they brought to install, was a different footprint. It was a Duo-Therm Brisk Air II. After a little research,I found that I need a Brisk Air I. I can not find one of them listed anywhere. Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject? Any thoughts will be appreciated.
By the way, it is a 15,000 btu ducted unit.

It will not. ONLY Penguins come with the control board, but those are 12 button boards. This link shows the 5 button and the galvanized control kit you need the galvanized box with the control board inside. The 2nd link is the control kit only. Doug

If they got the right one, it will, and they should have it right. On those units the electronics are in the upper unit.

Well, you will have to replace the upper control board with a 5 button control kit. The 5 button will NOT work on the 4 button control kit. Doug

That means you have purchased a tstat AND control module kit. If you only purchased the 5 or 12 button Tstat, it will NOT work with the 4 button control module. If you are replacing just a standard Brisk Air 2, then your original control kit and tstat will work. BUT, If it was me and you were my customer, I would indeed recommend replacing the 4 button system. You are way past the normal life expectancy of a 4 button. The only time a NEW model will not work with the old control system is if it is a Heat Pump. Doug

Why replace the tstat if it is working? Also, WHERE did you find a NEW 4 button? They have not been built in 16 years and have been out of stock for over 10 years. Doug

I have one unit and the 4 button thermostat that is working properly. I was able to find a replacement unit and new thermostat that has to be shipped from IN. Three or four more days of uncomfortable here in Las Vegas.

Do you have 2 AC units or one? Is the 4 button operating correctly? They are no longer made and you cannot replace it. You would have to go with either a 5 button or 12 button system. FYI, the 12 button system is a programmable tstat. Doug

I do not have the heat pump unit, and yes I do have the 4 button thermostat.

Chris, I have found that the call takers at Dometic usually have NO CLUE as to what new products can be used/retrofitted. Until you showed that pic and I understood the problem, I had no clue as to the discharge change. The OP needs to make sure the call taker at Dometic fully understands the problem between the old Brisk Air 1 and the new Brisk Air 2. I have changed HUNDREDS of Newmar AC units both Penguin and Brisk Air and luckily I have not done an old style Brisk Air like the problem here. Now, That I know, I will be ready for the next one. It is also critical to know if the OP has a Heat Pump Brisk Air. IF so, He has NO freeze sensor if he still has the 4 button wall CCC. Doug

The unit really needs to come from Dometic- they will know what will be a replacement if they are made aware of the situation.
