A/C Recirc

OK, here's the deal. My dash AC (new compressor, expansion valve and flush) blows barely cool in the normal mode. However, when I change the lever to recirc, the temp begins dropping until it gets to the mid 40s. Is this indicative of anything? Thanks.

Where did you learn this???

This question concerned my statement that I thought recirc was supposed to be used with a window cracked and for a limited time. I learned this from a number of statements in owners' manuals of cars I've owned. Anyhow, I understand the comments on the interior volume of the RV and I'll check the functioning of the doors and the shape of the vacuum lines. I was hoping that the cooling in recirc mode might be indicative of a specific problem as I've just spent a ton of money trying to get this thing fixed and it just does not work like it used to. For example, it is hot here (100+), however in similar conditions in the past the A/C has managed to blow cold air. Thanks to all.

Although there could be a problem RECIRC takes are from inside on my coach a grill at the passenger's toes, and cools it and sends it back,, Normal brings it in from outside..

If it's 80 in and you are trying to cool it, and outside its' 100+.. Nuff said.

check the A/C control "vacuum" lines
its possible one of the control doors/flaps is not being activated in fresh air mode

ME i always run the A/C on MAX cool which is recirculated air

why waste energy cooling out side air
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

That's interesting. Thanks. However, before (as in before it broke) it cooled great in the normal position. Also, as I understand it, recirc in a car, for example, is designed to be used only initially with a window cracked, then move to the outside air position.

Where did you learn this??? Not true. You use recirc to just cool the Auto or RV quicker. But, you are correct about the cooling. IF the RV inside is hot and you do NOT use recirc, then the AC will cool about the same rate. In a Auto, you will see faster cooling on recirc because an Auto has a smaller weathertight inside space to recirc the cooler air. RV's are no way close to weathertight and you have the large area behind the driver/Pass seat mixing also. Your RV should cool OK in the normal position, but WILL get colder in the recirc position. You may have a vacuum door problem in Normal position. Doug

There is a Door on the bottom of the Heater Core/Evaporator assbly. When in Recirc, that door closes and recycles the air inside the RV. When NOT in Recirc, that door opens and you are attempting to cool outside ambient air. BUT, if the air inside the RV is as hot as the outside air, you will not notice any difference until it recycles the inside air enough to get the air cooler. Doug

No it's working properly. It's far more efficient to cool the already cooled recirculated air than the hotter outside air. The EPA now issues Greenhouse Gas Credits to auto manufacturers for new cars/trucks who program their A/C systems that default to recirculation upon startup above 75F outside air temperature.
