A & E One Step 1 Power Awning

I have a 2002 Tiffin Zephyr with a power door awning and power patio awning. The door awning motor shorted out and burned up the control box. There has been 3 replacement numbers since then, the control box according to Dometic that is suppose to work when hooked up will only bring the awning in and not extract. The power awning over the door is not hooked up and not worth fixing, using it manually. Would anyone know what has to be changed on the wiring to make it work properly. Control box came with short pigtails all color coded per original and box is marked where they have to be plugged in. I'm at my wits end and would appreciate any help I can possibly get. Thanks Rick Olson

This should be the one you had originally.

I don't believe you can use the P/n you supplied on the old style Weatherpro. Regardless, The problem you have is the original had a different wind sensor using a 4 wire phone type communication cable and the new Control does NOT have that capability. They went to a sensor on top the front arm and uses different regular 12 volt wiring. The IGNITION wire does NOT have to be used. Until you get the problem fixed. Like I stated, you can swap the 2 wires going to the Awning motor to see if the awning works in reverse. THAT will tell you if the motor is defective. Doug

ON the new control are 2 wires that state PATIO MOTOR. THOSE 2 wires go direct to the awning motor. You supply 12 volt Positive and Negative to those 2 wires(NOT CONNECTED TO THE NEW CONTROL!). IF the awning goes OUT, stop after 1 foot and reverse the wires. The awning should retract. IF nothing happens the first time reverse the wires and the awning should go out and back in when reversed again. It is just a simple 12 volt motor and you reverse the polarity. IF the awning does not go out and in , you have a bad motor. Doug

Doug,

The old control box would extend the awning but wouldn't retract it, that was the side that was burned up. All the wires and pigtails that came with the new box are all color coded the same as the old box and that's how I hooked it up. It will retract but not extend and that's how I got it closed. The new box, the main power pigtail has a red & black & pink, according to the wiring instructions that I could find, the pink goes to ignition, red is +, black is -. Instructions say hook red to power source & black to power source. I assume the black is the ground, if cut & hooked to a power source like instructions say, what happens to the ground?

Was your original control box BLACK and square about 6 inches by 6 inches about 2 inches deep? Also, did it come with a keyfob remote switch? Are you POSITIVE it is NOT a Weatherpro. That was what was used 16 years ago. You can connect the Door awning 2 wire pigtail from the new control box to the Main awning 2 wire plug and see if the main awning now extends and retracts. Doug

there are only 2 wires to the motor. REVERSE thos wires at the pigtail from the control box and when pushing RETRACT, the awning should extend and when pushing EXTEND it should retract. IF it operates then connect the wires correctly. IF it fails to extend and retract, then the motor is bad.
Question--HOW did you get it to extend to find out it would only retract and not extend??????
