A Tip For Folks Who Are Trying To Help Others With Batteries

I slip on my galoshes and wade deep deep deep into battery issues. OPs sometimes complain they don't want to learn the technical side.

So maybe it would be best to simply stick to reporting your favorite brand of charger to be used with a generator, how many hours of runtime to recharge his bank and then list the downsides (a plus versus minus
list)

There will be casualties. Like a driver who insists on eating a sandwich while texting. They choose to have a lifetime of 2-year chew & spit batteries.

A person would think I immerse myself in battery care insanity with my bank...

Is this over indulgence?

24 cells at 24.2 volts
Start generator let it warm up.
Twist an Intermatic timer knob to say 4.5 hours
When I hear the generator unload at 4.5 hours I stroll up the hill and shut off the engine.
Every week I take a hydrometer reading of the weak sister cell.

Mex tries desperately to get you to scratch your head. Some think he is a God. Others (OK, just me) thinks he does not have a full bag of marbles.
Even if he does know of what he speaks, he does it in a way that makes you wonder about your own reality. I am not sure why he can't make a simple direct statement but it's just his "thing".
Others will smack me down and they have sent funds and hardware to "help" Mex. From what I can glean from these posts is that he is somewhere between homeless and helpless living in Mexico to survive with as little money as humanly possible. It does sound like he is a really great guy, but, seriously, he's just a guy living off the grid and making quizzical posts in hopes of getting folks to click on his links.
SNORE!

Interesting...Iโ€™ve yet to hear that this forum is actively recruiting for the position of โ€˜Posting Gate Keeperโ€™ and I for one lament this trend towards subjective โ€˜personal attacksโ€™ (from glass houses...) directed at others...Lets remind ourselves that RVโ€™ing is meant to be FUN, and address the substance (often light hearted) rather than the messenger...

There sure are some real clowns on this forum and we just heard from one of them.

I don't always understand it all but I always look for MEXICOWANDERER's opinion on battery threads.

Thanks for all your good advice.

The Caddy got 18.1 MPG. Checked repeatedly for 60K or so. My 6 cyl 3.0 Mitsubishi K car gets 23 MPG on USA gasoline and it passes California smog with room to spare.

In comparison several GM pickups of mine got 13.0 MPG unloaded.

There you go again B.S. your moniker?

Mr "WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?"

Divert your energy and try to help people instead of complaining about someone who does more than tell others how this forum should be run and how they should think. That's the job of a forum monitor.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

And how many feet did a carbi-tooted 429 in a land yacht go on 27 gallons?

If he was lucky and kept his foot out of it 250 miles ......maybe.

I

"Didn't Know"

at age 4, but somehow I struggled my way. Teaching classes aboard a sailboat I learned that an overwhelming percentage of don't wanna know, is a conscious decision. I could learn to write code but I don't wanna. CAN'T is a cop-out. It belittles the individual.

I realize that responding to what appears to be another rant is not productive, but, - it is "can't learn", not "don't want to". Last time I checked, no chapters of physics were mandatory in US and Canadian high schools. You can't learn without understanding the basics first.

(now I recall my answer to a similar rant several months ago on how to ask questions: OPs don't know how to properly ask because they don't know, period).

I was headed south on Mex 5 at buttonwillow when I decided to get gas. My '67 caddy had the 429 inch engine with a 10MT starter and a 17 plate group 27 battery.

These were the days of high compression engines and heat soaked starter motors. The fuel tank held 27 gallons.

Sure as hell the starter fell flat on it's face and I prepared to wait 10 minutes of so to restart. Being the 10MT was brand new Delco and installed around a month earlier I wasn' the least perturbed. I upgraded to 1 AWG battery cables then.

Out from the shadows of a service bay ran a pineapple skin youth holding a cheese grater type battery tester. He clamped in onto the battery terminals then flipped the toggle switch.

"Yep it's your alternator and I happen to have one! Lemme go see how much for labor".

I'll let you fill in the blanks.

MEX - maybe you better define "galoshes" for the younger generators -
....er- generation!
