Awning spring

I am replacing fabric on my a&e power awning. I accidentally let spring loose. Do I need to tension it before I put ne fabric on and roll it out? Does it tension its self when rolling out under power? Help

Yes, it makes a difference. NO awning torsion spring will self wind. You must put the specific amount of turns per length and type awning. BE VERY CAREFULL. If the end or awning slips loose when you are turning it you will get bruised knuckles or torn skin. BOTH are painful. Remember, standing from the rear facing forward the spring is wound clockwise. That is for manual awnings. I have A&E power owning. Does it make a dif.?

The spring has a specific preset number of turns that differs by the length of the tube. The link below contains the turns chart on page 7.
