Battery experts - golf cart

The GF's 36v golf cart needs batteries. I donated 6-12v 80ah AGMs, but the local cart guy is saying they won't charge properly because the charger expects "a certain amount of lead". That sounds ridiculous, but, there's a spec written on the charger saying it's designed for "18 cells" meaning, 6-6v batteries. I'm claiming that chargers recognize voltage alone, and the number of cells or amount of lead makes no difference.

I'm awaiting a response from the Lester charger people on this. What say you battery gurus?

That's an older one with a manual timer. My 48 is newer and isn't even adjustable. Cheapest thing is to show her how to connect a 12 volt charger. But then you dont want it to be to high a voltage either.

one on each pair

Do not allow the chassis (metal cover) of one charger to touch another.

Hi,

The chargers can be connected in series to charge the entire bank.

You can recharge a 36v set with a 12v charger by doing 12v worth at a time. Eg if it is 6 sixes just do two at a time. Or you could speed things up by having three 12v chargers, one on each pair.

I thought so too, but gf didn't believe me after the golf cart guy convinced her I was wrong. So she bought another crappy cart from him - exactly what he wanted her to do. Good thing we don't live under the same roof.

You mean you couldnt find any old links to send her wow!!:B

Guessing I'd say 20 years, or more. I can get the model number tomorrow.

Mine is an X series and some do have internal jumpers to select battery type. Some newer chargers have dip switch

How much could he fix you up for? LOL He knows you are loaded. Many industrial or cart chargers need to see a MINIMUM voltage to be able to turn on but dont care what they are pumping the juice to. If the charger was set up to charge wet cells it may be too high of a finish voltage for agm. Depends on what the manufacturer of your agm say. Plug it in and monitor the voltage.

I have a 48 v Lester industrial charger on four 12 v series dual purpose Samuals batteries. They hit 61 volts every charge. ages: 2008, 2009, 2015, 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit 45 v.
