Champion gen warm starting

Bought the 3500/4000 Champion this year since the Yammie 2400is wouldn't run the air. Champion runs 13.5 a/c no problem. Starts first pull when cold. The problem is if it's been running, shut off and then try to restart while it's still warm. Takes somewhere between 1 & 2 million pulls (I lost count.) Have tried different combinations of no choke, 1/2 choke, full choke, nothing has helped. It isn't very often we have this scenerio, but it's aggravating when it happens.

Stopping the Engine

1. Turn off and unplug all electrical loads. Never start
or stop the generator with electrical devices plugged
in or turned on.

2. Let the generator run at no-load for several minutes
to stabilize internal temperatures of the engine and
generator.

3. Turn the Fuel Valve to the โ€œOFFโ€ position.

4. Let the engine run until fuel starvation has stopped
the engine. This usually takes a few minutes.

5. Press the ignition switch to the โ€œOFFโ€ position.

Important:
Always ensure that the Fuel Valve and the
Engine Switch are in the โ€œOFFโ€ position when the engine
is not in use

This is a typo for sure. Call Champion and ask, No one should follow that unless storing for extended period.

I had the Champion 3500\4000 that was seldom used.
Found out that running high octane premium gasoline in it made all my starting problems go away.

The low quality gas in the tank was clogging the main-jet on occasion.
Difficult starting always happened when the generator sat for weeks not running.
It would start, then when I shut off the switch and retried it wouldn't start.

I have a older 3500/4000 and I only turn off the fuel valve when it's not going to be run for a while. When we are camping we leave it ready to start for the convenience, using the switch to shut it off. It might be off a day or a week and always starts on the first pull.

Not with the remote start / shutdown
I just read my manual on pull start 3500/4000 and it says shut down with switch. When storing for extended time then shut off fuel and then start and run it out of fuel

If float needle and seat dirty or stuck it will flood and not start

You might have a sticking float seat

Maybe they've changed something recently, but the owner's manual specifically states not to shut it off with the switch. It says to shut off the fuel and allow it die of starvation then turn off the switch.

I've been using generators for decades and have never shut the fuel off except for transport or storage. First time we took this one out, we used it briefly in the afternoon. Shut it off with the switch. Next morning went to start and the rope wouldn't budge. I was just wondering wtf when I noticed gas dripping from the air cleaner. I knew immediately it was full of gas. Checked the manual and found the instructions as I posted above.

That's the required method of turning it off per the owner's manual. Otherwise it will fill the entire motor with gas. Ask me how I know.
