Parked and plugged in CHARGE light is on. When I unplug and want to have 12v converted to 110, do I push the INVERT button? Then when I stop and plug in, shut off INVERT light?
Listened to 3 guys discussing CONVERTER/CHARGER INVERTER/CHARGER and would like to see what is right. I have the Xantrex 458 Inverter/Charger with a Freedom Control panel.

I have the Freedom 458 2000 watt and only turn it on when needed for 12V to 110V and turn off when not needed.

Yes.

You can, but we never do. It serves as a back up if shore power is lost. In almost two years, we have lost campground power probably a dozen times...

I suppose that could work, but I'm too lazy to look up the manual for you.

I believe you have it right but I don't own a 458.

How else could it operate?

We have a Xantrex 458 in a 2005 Fleetwood Excursion 39S. We leave it on all of the time unless in storage or camped with no shore power. It can draw a little power off of the batteries, but if you're going down the road or plugged in, it doesn't matter. When it's in storage the negative battery cables are pulled.
