Converter with a built in inverter?

Does anyone know of a power converter that includes an inverter. I can't find any but it would seam logical that someone makes a 2 in 1 device like that.

I saw a few. It looks like instead of switching you run on inverter all the time weather on battery or converter. Don't know how your supposed to run the AC like that.
Others have only 10amp chargers.
Decent ones are almost $1,000.00

I guess adding a 3rd party inverter is the way to go. I'll just do the same I did on the last one.

There are dozens of IN-Line inverter/converters out there (called Inverter/charger) nearly all the bigger inverters work this way,, Most anythin in the 1500 watt plus range.. Mine is a Xantrex Prosine 2.0 (no longer made) but there are many many many others.

The converter chargers that most RVs are supplied with are miserable little things. Like a few other responders I have a pure sine wave Magnum 2kw inverter charger.

All 12V needs will be taken from the battery bank. The 3 stage inverter charger recharges the battery bank as needed. There are various ways to supply the 110VAC side to the 'house'. I wired mine to the main panel which supplys everything.

The down side of that arrangement is that somebody has to remember to leave the water heater & fridge on propane when drycamping otherwise the battery bank will be dead in no time.

There are a few of these unit out there. They are expensive however..

This is a block diagram of the Magnum ME2012-20B 2000W 12V Inverter 100A DC Charger



The way this works is when connected to shore power or Generator the MAGNUM ME2012-20B passes the 120VAC to your EMERGENCY 120VAC SUB=PANEL and also charges your connected battery bank.

When the SHORE POWER or Generator is off line then the MAGUNM ME-2012-20B auto switches and has a built-in SINE WAVE INVERTER to feed your EMERGENCY 120VAC POWER SUB-PANEL using your connected large 12VDC BATTERY BANK as power source.

hope this helps some - I don't have one of these setups but have looked into them. When things cost in the thousands of dollars I usually quit my pipe dreaming.

You can do the same thing here with individual items - The MAGNUM is nice having all of that built-in a single box with a nice monitor panel.

As said it is an inverter/charger and will work exactly as described. Many RVs come OEM with inverter/charger set up. However they tend to be larger in the range of 2000+ watts inverter and 80+ amps charging and need four+ batteries to operate properly.

But honestly I prefer separate components and recommend a small separate inverter and separate transfer switch. Easy to wire in to the existing outlets if you have done any home wiring before.

Even if you could find a 600-800W inverter/charger, it will not have enough 12V charging amps for what you want to do. Buy a small pure sine wave inverter and put it on a A-B switch for the outlet you want to power when off shore/generator power.

Hi,

Add up the wattage of all the devices that will be on at the same time. Purchase an inverter/charger that is 125% of that number for continuous demand.

I prefer stand alone converters and inverters rather than inverter/chargers. If you must go the inverter/charger route try to make sure the charger part is not over 125 amps. That way it will still run on 15 amp shore power.

I have the Xantrex Freedom 1800 which is a 1800 watt inverter/40 amp charger and automatic switch for the last 4 years and has been doing great.

I only run TV, laptops exc...but like the covenance of having the inverter power supplyed though existing outlets. 600 would be more then enough.

Not sure what you are wanting to run on 110V but assuming your microwave then this. It would be cheaper to just add a simple inverter close to your batteries and run a 12 ga 110V wire to a new outlet.
If you are wanting to power a TV and Sat receiver then you only need 800W or less.

Yes, they are called Inverter/Chargers. Very, very common.

Hi,

An inverter/charger will work to do what you wish if it is wired correctly. I'd recommend a hybrid such as Victron or Magnum.
