Dinette construction

This may be a silly question, but I want to make sure I don't create a big problem by doing a modification.

I'm considering removing my dinette and using that space for recliners. I noticed that the framework for the benches (aluminum) is attached to the floor and the sides of the slide pretty strongly. At the top of the slide, there is a row of cabinets, also attached pretty strongly.

Does anyone know if the dinette framework and cabinets are meant to be part of the structural integrity of the slide, and would removing them would weaken things?

Thoughts please?

No, they are separate from the rigid structure of the slide. You can gut it without worry.
It may affect resale value though.

Looks like it won't be a problem. There is no wiring/plumbing etc under the dinette benches, just storage, with an access door to the outside. I am actually going to keep the storage bin intact and just remove the two side benches (they are all separate builds). There is enough room for narrow recliners to fit where the benches were, and I will still have access to the storage bin from both inside and outside. And the long bench over the outside bin will make a great table for drinks, remotes, etc.

It may depend on the manufacturer but my slide did not depend on the dinette for any structural strength. I removed mine with no issues. You may or may not want to permanently seal the outside storage access doors, if any, for the space under the dinette. I guess you have already made sure nothing like your inverter, or water pump, etc. is located under the dinette.

I had two outside doors that accessed that space and I permanently sealed them up. I also rerouted the power cord for the slide lights and sockets. It ran under the dinette and just needed to be secured to the wall.

I don't think cabinets and such are part of the slide out integrity, although they do make the slide out stronger. But the slides are usually built and then the cabinets and such are installed, and then they are put into the camper.

We did a Denali Factory tour a few years ago. Here's a couple photos I had of the slides. Maybe this will help in your planning.








Here's a photo of my own camper (Outback) after removing all the stand alone furniture. I still think the cabinets may add some integrity, but it's still originally assembled to the completely self sufficient.
