Generator comparison

I am looking at the 2000W Champion inverter/generator. It is cheaper than the Honda or Yamaha. Curious if it is good enough? I understand no A.C.. My cougar is 30 amp hook up. With adapter will it run my PD converter?....Hey moderator, we need forum to compare common products without violating the buy and sell policy.

IMO, I find it hard to believe that anyone would choose a Generac or any other over Hon or Yammy to save a lousy 150 bucks. If you ever go to sell, that will be chicken feed.

I've been on a "fixed income" for quite a few years now but I bought a used Honda EU2000i a few years ago for the usual reasons - recharging our trailer battery and powering the trailer itself when dry camping. I didn't buy it planning to sell it but did a couple of years later after we sold the trailer and it seemed we weren't going to get back in anytime soon ... and despite the premium price a Honda inverter series genset demands, new or used, I got all my $$$$ investment back. :B

Within a year we changed course and bought our current couple's trailer so I once again bought another used Honda EU2000i, knowing that should our plans change and I wanted to sell this one I'd stand a pretty darned good chance once again of getting all my $$$$ investment back. Well over the winter we've decided to alter course a bit and won't need the genset so despite the fact we're still in the midst of winter here in Canada I placed an ad on Kijiji in the RV section and within 3 hours had a firm offer at full price.

Used generators in this part of the world are a dime a dozen BUT if you want a good used Honda EU2000i you gotta move fast 'cause otherwise the only guaranteed way you're going to get one of these gensets is to cough up full price for a brand new one, currently $1399 Cdn + PDI + freight + 13% tax. :E. Believe it - used Honda EU2000i gensets sell like hotcakes, anything else is hard to give away. Been there, done that twice now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I for one would take a AMERICAN produced product over a imported anything.

But that is just me :B

It's like many things. Quality costs more upfront but less long term.
Lower quailty has a low intial cost, but a higher long term cost.

I've had the pair of Honda EU2000's in parellel for a few years, but have never been quite satisfied with them. I just bought the new Champion 3100i with remote/electric start and think I will love it. I've started it and ran it to break it in a little, and it started at the push of a button. I hooked up the trailer (in the garage) and turned on the AC, and it was barely noticeable. On sale, delivered, no tax, for $899 was/is a great deal. I'm selling my EU2000i Companion (30 amp plug) on craig's list, and will keep the EU2000i basic for van camping.

I agree, but the price difference, and reliability of the Champion inverter generators are a great alternative IMO.

I have the Champion 2000w inverter and love it! My small TT doesn't have A/C and it works perfect for charging my batteries and running small appliances. It runs my microwave fine.

When comparing inverter generators, one thing to look at is that not all of them are parallel capable.. That means pairing two of them for twice the power. That will run anything you want in a 30 amp TT. It is something that may not seem important today,,, as just getting some power will seem like a luxury... But down the road you may want more.

The Champions you are looking at can be twined. The Generacs,,, I don't think so. All of the Hondas can be. Some of the Yamahas can be.

A little power is nice. More power is nicer.

Huntindog, you haven't seen me in "judgemental mode" yet. This is when I start telling what I think, not just what I observe.

Like, people trying to run microwave off 1000W inverter or generator because it says "700W" on the microwave. Or - estimating the battery charge by looking at those OEM indicators in trailer. And many, many other things. Have stopped wondering long time ago ๐Ÿ™‚
We obviously don't see eye to on how to camp.

The way I see it, I paid a lot of money for my TT and generators. That bought me freedom to run what I want when I want. I have no desire to plan it out so I can do everything with limited power.

If that is your thing, then I am happy for you.
Try to reciprocate...

Those are not the Generacs I was thinking of. I have never seen those before. So I stand corrected. Some Generacs can be twined.
The ones at my Costco (which have been out a while) cannot be.

From my observations, often it's not that people need "more power", but "all the more power at the same time". Ex, somebody runs his microwave and coffee maker on 3000W generator, all is good, then DW plugs vacuum or hair drier in and blows the fuse. Get 4000W, and you can still blow the fuse if you don't know what you're doing. It's a matter of organization.
Don't be so judgemental in your "observations"
I have two Hondas. Do I need them all of the time? No. It is a want, just as our TTs are a want.
If you have no desire for two... That's great.
