Yep, it surprised me how many watts a coffee maker is. Mine is very close to the same wattage as my m-wave (~950). I bought the m-wave specifically because of its relatively low power requirements. Twisty knob controls instead of digital as well. When itโ€™s off, itโ€™s off.

The inverter can comfortably handle the coffee maker or the m-wave on its own, but as I said, most of the time the Yamaha 1000 is already running so it shares the load.

I was thinking for coffeemaker use. Curiosity led me to check the brand-new bargain basement Mr Coffee machine I got last month for $19.95

12-cup model. Consumes 1,080 watts on normal brew and 795 watts on strong brew which I prefer.

I just realized I didnโ€™t put a link to the Novopal inverter in my post so you can check it out. Fixed it. Sorry about that.

I bought this one about 6 months back, and so far Iโ€™ve been pleased with its performance. Very similar design, so it may be from the same Chinese factory. I kind of like the remote panel on the Edecoa inverter better than the clunky switch on this one, but it does the job.

Novopal 1500 Watt PSW

The idle current draw is .6 amp, which is better than the Xantrex inverter I used to have.

I use this primarily to run my fridge on AC while weโ€™re on the road, which is overkill, but I also use it to run my microwave occasionally. Most of the time when weโ€™re boondocking I have my Yamaha 1000 running in the evenings (nowhere near you, so donโ€™t start in on me). It canโ€™t supply enough juice to run the m-wave on itโ€™s own, but it can if I use the inverter. The camper battery supplies about half the current, and the generator supplies the other half through the converter/charger.

I havenโ€™t looked at the wave form on a scope yet, but everything with digital controls Iโ€™ve plugged in to it so far has been happy.

I like it. Itโ€™s quiet. Even doing m-wave duty the fans turn on and off occasionally. It keeps me from having to run the built-in Generac genny just to nuke a meal.

With modern electronics, the cost between a modified sine wave and a pure sine wave inverter should be MINIMAL. There is now a single IC chip of the market that does most of the work. The rest of the electronic parts between the two are almost identical.

Yes while someone may have a need for 1000 watts it would seem best to go 300 max for easy install or 2000 watts to run anything that plugs into a normal outlet.

Gordonthree, I run a small freezer on my 1500w harbor freight inverter.... when I can get the inverter to tolerate the huge startup pulse.

Is anyone running a domestic fridge on a cheapie inverter. Probably not one of the monsters like pictured above, but the much smaller high-frequency ones, also from eBay?

I keep toying with the idea of a small chest freezer in my truck bed, since my RV freezer only has the capacity for one ice cube tray and one small steak.

I'd wire the inverter into the truck electric, with an isolator so its only running when the engine is running. Probably tuck the inverter into a battery box where the 2nd battery would live if I had the diesel.

I bought a 300W MSW inverter at Canadian Tire for $40 and it satisfies my normal needs (2 TVs and sounds system).

I'll see your $40 and raise you $15 ๐Ÿ™‚ - I bought 160W GoPower MSW inverter for $25 on Amazon, and it satisfied some my needs. Big and very quiet Rowenta fan - on of the quietest, in fact - was whining so badly that I had to turn it off. Even a little electric shaver sounded as if it were annoyed with something. GoPower is not a bad brand, but MSW is MSW.

Seriously though - 300W PSW inverter like the one that Don posted earlier, is all that is needed. Unless you use microwave and other kitchen devices - and then you need 1500-2000W.

Wonder what the sine wave looks like.

I loaded a Wagan Elite EL2601 400 watt PSW upto 475 watts for a few minutes yesterday. Unloaded voltage read 111.2vAC, loaded at 475 watts it read 113.1vAC.

I wonder what its sine wave looks like.

I was powering a 20 inch box fan on high, and a Buckethead shop vac through a router speed controller and dialed it upto 10 waiting on the alarm to come on once past 400 watts, It didn't.

Its got a 0.4 amp standby draw which drops to 0.25 in a few seconds.

I have one and it works well for my occasional use. I have loaded it to 1850W with little change in voltage. Fan doesn't run continuously and it has a remote.

Typical ๐Ÿ˜ž

I goofed

The link title said PURE sine wave when clicked it says modified.

We have a kind and sharp eyed brother here that inserted the correct link above.

At eight something pounds this does not appear to be a highly freeking-sinkly inverter.

Might fill the bill for modest requirements.

I classify inverters into two categories.

1. Leave on

2. Shut off

This may qualify as the # 2

As inverters go I believe Outback has a better warranty track record.

But for the price this may be a good chew & spit alternative

MEX, do you actually own this inverter? Does it do well at the high end of the rated power?

What is the idle draw? How quiet is the fan? Fan controlled by thermostat?

David .... X2 on your answer to the 800 lb. Gorilla In The Room missing from so many inverter specs .... what is it's idle draw - for those drycampers who want to leave their inverter hooked up and turned on all the time?

(BTW .... I personally won't touch a MSW inverter. There's enough to worry about when drycamping w/o the smell of overheated electronics being one of them.)
