I doubt if that was a LiFePO4 battery, which is the type commonly used in RV batteries and is much safer than the other types.

12V batteries with chemistry other then LifePO4 are not uncommon.

Most fires (I think) occur not during charging or not due to charging, but due to mechanical damage.

American airlines has this new rule about "smart luggage"AA luggage

Then there is this from the FAA site.
"Spare (uninstalled) lithium ion and lithium metal batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage only. When a carry-on bag is checked at the gate or at planeside, all spare lithium batteries must be removed from the bag and kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin. The battery terminals must be protected from short circuit."FAA

Or a quick search on the FAA site of what's actually allowed.https://www.faa.gov/search/?omni=MainSearch&q=Batteries

There are multiple LI technologies.. This was an issue with many laptop users a few years ago... LI batteries catching fire.. Your "Cool new laptop" often became a very HOT laptop.. suddenly and without warning

YES: I had a battery recalled.

Page 2: A movement (I think it's been signed into law) to prohibit this type of battery on Passenger Sircraft.. Reason obvious.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

It's not the same chemistry in its makeup.

The video above sure got me thinking: Does Samsung (and other smartphone companies) recommend AGAINST using your phone at the same time as it's being kept on it's charger?

I hope not ... we leave our Galaxy S7 smartphone charging all the time in the RV while we're hot-spot tethering through it to get Internet access for our laptop. Our S7 does not get appreciably warm while doing this. So far this works really well while we're camping in the RV.

Also at home, my Dell laptop with it's Li batteries is on it's charger just about continuously while I'm using it for everything. It even has a custom power plan choice for when it's primarily used while on it's charger - as opposed to being used primarily while on only on it's battery between charges.

If Li technology batteries can't be trusted to safely be on a charger and be used at the same tme - then they're never going to set foot inside my RV, that's for sure!

Sunday Feb 25 is still "this week", I believe.

Internal short. My take, - it was hit while being loaded in the bin. I know a guy that had a fire when his dog tried to chew small 18650 LiPo cell. Like in atomic bomb, 2 parts that should be kept separate, get in contact and start reaction.

Making more resilient casing would be against this culture of disposable bottom-quality items.
