LED Lighting under awning

I have a Carefree Eclispe Power Awning and want to install LED lighting. I have purchased this strip http://www.ebay.com/itm/170972259352?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 to install. I would like to put the LED strip on my awning roller, plug the cord in when in use, and roll the strip up with the awning when not in use.I realize I will have to unplug the strip before I roll the awning up. How many have done it this way and does rolling the awning up with the strip attached damage the lights?

I plan on doing this and at this point I will attach to the roller with the waterproof strip and I don't forsee any issues causing damage to the strip or the awning. I would prefer to have them on the trailer so that they could be used with the awning retracted but I share the same concerns as you. I have seen someone that has attached a non-waterproof strip to the roller and they seem to be ok. I will try to find it and attach it.

Great, I appreciate your help.

For those that have attached them to the trailer below the awning is there any issues with them attracting flying insects? Think its a great idea on the trailer as opposed to the awning but around here there isn't many nights your not fighting off the mosquito's during the summer and this might make it difficult to get into the trailer wihtout a swarm coming in with you.

Very good question. Before I started this tread, I did a search on LED Strip Lighting, and found many were planning on attaching the strip to the roller. Now, no one has done this except 1 person used a LED Rope Light and slid it into the grove in the roller. I do not want to stick a lighting strip on the side of my MH. I feel the lights will eventually burnout or discolor and then removing the strip will damage the paint. If anyone has stuck the strip on the roller and now roll the awning up with the strip attached, please tell us of the durability or did it crush the LED's?

I installed mine last year. They are very water proof. Cost $18. I used an old computer laptop power supply. Next I will just get a plug and go direct to the battery. I recently installed one in the front winshield area, going around the windshield. Also you can get extension plugs to interconnect them, make 90 degrees turn. Are get the voltage amplifier

I have the same ting on mine.. I use it when we go to Talladega.. I love it.. I also put a small amout of window clear silcone above the strip to keep water from seeping behind the strip.. works like a champ.. BE SURE TO HOOK UP THE RED & Black WIRES RIGHT CAUSE YOU WILL POP THE CONTROLLER...

Thanks, the receiver has a arrow showing how the plug in is aligned. Do you just leave the strip attached to the roller and roll the awning on top of the strip?

I see no problem except for water that manages to get into the rolled up awning from rain that may damage the LED strip but they are cheap enough to try anyway. 🙂

Those look really neat and I see no reason for not attaching them to the roller. The only reason I haven't bought them is I didn't want to wait for shipping from Hong Kong. Good to see there are US sellers now. I would appreciate it if you would PM me and let me know how they work out for you.

Will do.

I would install it permanently on the side of the RV under the awning. That way the lights could be used with the awning in or out and with no concerns of damage.

I have thought about that. What do you do when they burn out, and while trying to remove the stickum, you mess up the full body paint, or will they last a lifetime? I would rather stick them to the roller and if they do not last, I have hurt nothing removing them.

We have them that way, but our roller has an area specifically for lights - we just tucked a strings of led rope lights in that area - leave it in all the time.
