Lithium crossing the acceptance threshold…

Now that a bit more time has passed, it seems that the former uber fervent ‘anti-Lithium camp’ has quietly gone dark (R.I.P.)… I take little comfort in this, except to say that the near continuous stream of unsubstantiated claims (mostly keyboard quackery) has expired, and without even a whimper…One might now rightfully conclude that Lithium (more specifically, LiFePo4) has apparently crossed the naysayer’s and market acceptance threshold 🙂 JMHO only…

TANTRUM ALERT!!! TANTRUM ALERT!!! TANTRUM ALERT!!!

I moved your thread back out of Around The Campfire for you because it seemed like you were embarrassing yourself over there and moved it back to Tech Issues where your tantrum began.

This thread was a goof from the get-go, an attempt to stir things up.

And then things went sideways when you didn't like getting called out on it.

Now the thread is closed. Hopefully the tantrum is over.

recently on my small trailer the 6vGC2 trojans gave up the ghost after 12 years.
250AH cells usually discharged to around 30%SOC dozens of times/year.

Going down the checklist of a Li vs. flooded lead acid Li won the contest until it came to cost. $350 for another set of GC2's vs way more for Li along with the need for a different charger.

My big trailer with 4 GC2's (10 years along) will be needing new batteries in the next few years. I suspect cost will lead me to GC2 flooded cells, but once they are done I suspect the switch to Li will win on every count including cost.

Rather than a mere ‘boiler plate type disclaimer’ (skirting the issue…) Mod should be intellectually honest and state what guys who hang out here all get, that this is a ‘change’ of policy - at least then we might understand…

How many 6v gc batteries would it take to equal the usable capacity of my 3 206 a/h LFP batteries? And what would be the weight difference?

First define the capacity of the 206 amp-hours. 80% or 40% to 85% (40% usable)?

First of all, Campfire is a dumb place to put a tech discussion.
I'm curious but too lazy to research for myself but maybe someone else already has.

Don't you guys camp during the summer 🙂 I am sure BF is just getting in the last of the good camping down there..

seriously though I found a deal on cells and just orderd 8 more 320AH cells for 480.00 and found the BMS I want for 50 bucks each. so cost isnt a issue any more, well if you build it yourself. that will let me build a 320AH battery for under 350.00 it cost me 360 to buy two 200AH 6V GC 2 batteries. so close to same price and 3 times the usable energy , im in haha. even if you buy premades I am starting to see them at 350.00 for 100ah so that directly comparable power wise.

Absolutely ridiculous, and to what end??…How many times in the past have discussions like this very one been the absolute norm??…

Many times..So solar/solar chargers and battery issues are campfire talk now?

I don't recall a fervent anti-lithium contingent.

The issue most had was more that the cost was hard to justify, especially when you had to do other modifications to accommodate the charge requirements. It's getting better but unless you need a large battery bank, it's still hard to justify over 6v golf cart batteries for most users.

The only Anti Lithium cries that I recall are about the hypocrisy of the electric car promoters, who ignore the planet damage done by the mining activities for the Lithium, as well as the electric production methods.
No matter how you do it, the energy is not free, no matter how much you hope for something else.

Oil driling is many times worse for the enviroment.

Lithium moved to ‘General RV’ing’… Why so??…Based on the long history and breadth of discourse that’s past occurred on this very topic, why so??

Maybe he moved it because this thread reads more like a court stenographer's transcript of a game of checkers over a pickle barrel than a serious conversation about tech issues.

I'm moving it from General RV'ing to Around the Campfire where checker games and pickle barrels are more appropriate.

Let's see if Moderator moves it too. :B

Those EV threads should go straight INTO the campfire.

Well, this thread may not be an "issue", but it is technical. Campfires aren't technical.
