MotoSat and Direct TV. What now????

Does anybody know how to get the MotoSat dish to find Direct TV when you have the new Direct TV remotes? Direct TV came to our house several weeks ago to upgrade a receiver in the house. The technician said he would put a new receiver in the RV as well, at no charge, because they were trying to get the old RCA receivers out of circulation. I should have never let him take it.
When I tried out the new reciever with remote, there is now NO WAY to control the satellite dish on the roof and get it to find the Direct TV satellite. Now I have a dish that may as well be a boat anchor.
Direct TV will not bring the old receiver back. They say if you buy one on EBAY, they will not give you a card for it. And MotoSat is out of business and the company that spawned off of it, won't call back.
Help! Any suggestions. I still have the old RCA remote (black with purple buttons) but it no longer works to position or control the satellite dish.
thanks

It comes from the receiver. The receiver can send data about information it receives to a remote device. It's an old, outdated, unsupported technology but it's still there and still works. In this case, the antenna would use the information coming from the receivers signal strength meter to determine proper satellite and signal strength. This part of a receiver cannot be turned off so even if programming is not being sent, the signal will always be coming down and a receiver (activated or not) will always be able to see it. Unless DirecTV has come up with some magically signal that they can send via satellite to actually kill a receiver (and why would they when all they have to do is no longer provide programming to the card associated with that receiver) then the box will continue to see a signal and send that data out via low speed data port.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Hi Bill: In this matter I am technically challenged. Please help me understand. The old Tracvisions need data from the receiver to find a satellite. Where does the receiver get this data. I think some Tivo type devices also need this data. If it does not come via the satellite then it must be in the receiver?? HELP!

DirecTV does not "broadcast" low speed data. The data port is used by the receiver to communicate with external devices. I do not know of any way for DirecTV to prevent that from happening but they certainly could prevent owners who are using them from receiving a viewable signal.

Bill: Is it true that Direct will not be "broadcasting" that low speed data? What is the purpose of that data? If no Rcvrs. have that port anymore why would they keep sending the signal? Thanks.

Bill, Are both SD and HD DNS channels on 101? Just curious.

DirecTV SD programming comes from 101 and can be received by a dome style antenna. DirecTV HD programming comes from 99 and 103 and requires and open face SL3 or SL5 LNB for reception of 99, 101 and 103.

Will Direct be shutting down my 6 year old box sometime soon? The old Direct box does not have HDMI cables that connect to the Samsung.

Would appreciate any updates on what Direct TV is going to do, if anything.

DirecTV will be doing nothing with your D12 box. It's the current SD receiver from DirecTV. The receivers being referenced here are really, really old.

Good point about the prior service address rather than a new one. Thanks

I have 5 service addresses on the west coast and with the spot beam overlap I get locals for the entire coast. I've gotten SF locals in Eugene and even Portland at night but it becomes marginal reception that far north. I receive 3 DTV birds which I'm sure helps.

Switching service address: keep asking for support until you get a person, give them a prior service address and you're quickly done. A new service address takes longer as they must verify the information and then complete the setup so that you get the locals.

Excellent information. The answers I got from Direct TV were not all that direct!

You have gotten a lot of bad information from at least 2 different sources. The DTV 4 major networks from both NY and LA are available on the 101 satellite. Some additional networks (and PBS) require that you sign up for DNS services. Now, why anyone who does any amount of travel would not sign up for DNS is beyond me. "I save $15/month"! Who cares!? If $15/month is that important you likely can't afford to own an RV.

Here's a question that perhaps a Direct TV expert could answer. We live in the Phoenix area and use to camp on the beach in our RV near Ventura, at Emma Woods State Park, where I had trouble receiving the LA television stations on my Wineguard crank up antenna.
Somebody told me that you could change your service address to one in LA while you were there and the local programming would be fed to you on Direct TV. I tried this, but couldn't get the local progamming.
When I called Direct TV, they gave me some story about the programming in LA from Direct TV was "on a different satellite in Los Angeles and I would need to be able to receive that satellite's signal. That's why I was confused about there being just one satellite, 101W. At the time, and this was 10 years ago, I called MotoSat and they said I needed to upgrade to their newest reciever at the time, (about $1000) and I could then get a choice of two satellites. I never upgraded. (thank goodness, since they went out of biz) I appreciate all the expertise of folks on this forum.
