Old battery was 9 years old and wouldn't hold a charge any more. That battery always read 13.5v when charged. My new BTX 65 850cca 1000ca reads 12.5V , called ford tech and asked what the charged voltage should be he said he had no Idea and asked if the battery was holding a charge. I said yes. he said then its OK . I checked my jeep battery its 12.8v.
The coach starts fine an reads 14.48 from the alt.

I managed to avoid that but not by much. (Walked into the ER with congestive heart failure and Aterial Flutter.. It is always better when you walk in) My roommate was carried in. But he had more serious issues.

Nice multi color chart but it fails to take into account something.

There are several different batteries out there.. The Chart is for Flooded Wet Cells.. Maintenance free has a slightly different voltage chart, and AGM yet another.. Some brands are even more .. Different.

Also one has to ask where the voltage was messured, Dash gauge or battery terminals, Was there any load at all on the battery, how long did it sit.

About the only thing you should never see as a resting voltage on a 12 volt battery is 12 volts (12.00) on all 12 volt formulas I knwo of that is TOO LOW.

I've encountered dealership batteries that sat on the shelf for TWO YEARS without being charged. Top charge your battery. 12.5 volts is NOT a full state of charge. Left at 12.5 volts the battery is going to sulfate. Charging, in my mind is absolutely not, connecting to a converter and then Plug N Play. The battery has to see an actual charge not merely get fondled.

I have the same Motorcraft battery. Just put it in to replace the older Motorcraft that lasted 10 yrs. 1 mo. (great battery).

Since I had a meter next to me and the truck is in the driveway and hasn't been started for a couple of days, I walked out and put a meter on it----12.38 VDC. No worries.

This is a handy chart showing what the resting DC VOLTS should read for the different states of charge. If your battery was reading 13.6VDC then that must be coming from your alternator with the truck motor running. A fully charged 12V battery should read 12.6VDC-12.7VDC.

When camping off the power grid I always watch my DC VOLTS and when the battery bank gets down to around 12.0VDC (APPRX 50% SOC) I start thinking about getting the battery bank re-charged back up to at least its 90% SOC. With smart mode chargers running 14.4VDC you can re-charge your batteries back up to the 90% charge state usually in a three hour charge cycle.

Maybe your battery wasn't fully charged when you purchased - that's pretty common in places that don't regularly maintain batteries on shelf. You can either charge it yourself or drive around and let the alternator do the work -- then test and see the results.
