Propane issues

Hey there folks.

We are living in our fifth wheel while we build our home. Our local gas company came out and put a 500 gallon propane tank in and hooked it all up. Now our stove won’t light OR when it does it only stays lit for a few seconds before burning out. I’ve checked the valve and it’s open (underneath the camper) so I don’t know what’s going on.

I will say generally in the camper I can smell the propane when turning on burners. Now I can’t smell anything and it’s as if no propane is getting through.

The guy who installed it wasn’t helpful at all. Basically said we’d need to have a pro come look at it.

I’m frustrated because I think there is something I’m missing that is an easy fix. 😕

in lieu of your RV's 2 stage regulator, there should be a 1st stage regulator @ the tank and then the 2nd stage regulator should be at/near the RV.

At the same time, this guy is authorized to deliver a tank w/ a regulator (safety) and connect it to a house hold service. Doubtful he is authorized to start overhauling your RV service (removing your regulator) to get his standard tank to work.
You may need to call a propane technician, or do it yourself,....which is what I would have done.

You may have identified your problem. The regulator on the tank is dropping propane pressure so your one on the rig isn't working correctly.

....and your "gas guy" should have tested out a couple of your systems (like the stove) before he left....:S

And I think you guys are correct. I googled that after reading his post and basically they can’t work together.

I’m callin the people at gas company. They need to come hook it up properly below the rv.

sometimes it takes time for the gas to go through a long line into the camper turn the stove on and it'll get there or turn the water heater and furnace on and let it cycle several times if that doesn't work called the gas company that installed the tank and tell him to come out and fix it that's their problem

BB_TX above has a very good thought. I'm also guessing that you are getting gas supplied through 2 regulators.

Yes their are TWO regulators. One on the external tank and one on the RV. I think that may be an issue as well and not sure why he’d not just install it properly! I really feel this is the gas companies deal. They dropped the tank and gave a bill for $900 and basically said good luck.

I’ll turn on the other stuff and see if it helps circulate the gas too.

Does their propane tank have a direct feed to your regulator?
Or does their tank have a regulator that drops the pressure down to normal house pressure and then feeds your regulator? If so, it may be that two regulators don’t play well together.

And the regulaator has basically a knob. We’ve moved the supply knob left. Right. Straight up. Doesn’t seem to make any difference.
