Propane Tank @ Camping World Store - threads stripped!

Stopped at a Camping World this afternoon, and before I could get out of the coach, an employee had the hose attached and tried to fill my on-board propane bottle. All kinds of hissing off to the side of the connection, so he unscrews it, says that it may be cross threaded, then tries again with a good screw-down fit Well, more hissing and loss of propane from hose. I ask him to reconnect 3rd try, after we both inspect the brass threads to see the starting point brass is sheared off, and same thing - loss of propane out the hose from the supply tank at Camping World Store.

The last time I got propane, the connection worked fine! So, does this indicate that maybe the guy today messed it up by cross-threading it? He did in fact connect it once, then backed off and reconnected it before terming my orifice as damaged.

So, I said I'll come back in the morning to have the service dept. R & R a new brass orifice on my propane tank.

What am I looking at in price/cost in terms of dollars?

Should I approach the General Manager at the Camping World with this issue, after getting the work started on the R & R?

Just want to be fair here, is all.

In 36 years of dealing with Motorhome ASME tanks, I have NEVER seen or even understand HOW you could possibly strip those wide groove threads on the ASME tank fill nozzle. I would suspect your black gasket seal has fallen off and THAT is why you had the hissing and leakage. I would go to another LP tank filler and explain what happened and have them check it out. Doug

Doug, that's what I thought too!

My brass orifice and threads take the filling threads easy enough, but because the connection is down low on my RV, it seems to take another try, lining-up their threading.

Both mine, and theirs have one black O-ring intact. Wonder what's going on here?

Are you sure you are seeing sheared threads? My guess would be a missing gasket preventing a good seal. The threads are not meant to seal.
Good question, and info, Chris.

The first 1/4" of the brass thread is sheared-off, but the supply screw-down @ CW socketed in/screwed on very well. Read on below....

OK, just checked for O-ring(s) Chris, mine has a black O-ring in there. It is intact, and it moves around circularly when I put my finger on it. But it's there.

His, (CW's)connecting orifice had a black rubber seal I could see. The guys said they'd just filled a propane tank earlier, so it wasn't their connection they said.
