Questions on a Sharp Microwave

We have any microwave techs on the site ?.

Have a Sharp, model R-1480.
Produced in March 1999 & in a 1999 H/R Vacationer.

When trying to use Micro, set time, press start & micro will turn light on & count down the minutes like normal, but the turn table will not rotate or heat what your trying to heat up.
Has a setting to turn the turn table off or on & is set for on.
This unit, looks to be like a custom style unit for RVs, because of the way it is mounted in the cabinet space & includes an exhaust fan above for the gas cook stove.
Thanks in advance, Neil

On the bottom of the cabinet is a open fuse holder with a 15Amp ceramic fuse. The fuse holder will go bad ( it looses tension and cause the fuse to blow out. Put a little more pressure on the holder and it should last another 10 Years.

Bringing this back up, so maybe Mex will see it & tell me where that magnatron fuse is located.

I googgled it & got a micro fishe view of the microwave, & it looked like there was two of those fuses. Maybe I was looking at the wrong thing, but that is what it looked like.

Thank you Mexicowanderer.

Looking at this Micro, its like it dont have an outside cover like most microwaves & has like a metal slide rack built in that it fits into, with two long bolts at the top to hold it in place.

A regular cheap micro would be a good idea, but then I got to build something in the area where the old one was at for the new one to sit or fit into.

The #1 fuse, small round one like a car fuse, it checked out ok.
Now to find that #2 fuse location your referring to.

I probably will pick need to your brain on that push button breaker deal, sounds a lot better idea than replacing a fuse every time I turn around.
Thanks again, Neil

Jeezo, I HATE trashing stuff. A SHARP that old is not the junk of today.

There are TWO cartridge fuses on the circuit board inside. Some microwaves have one fuse on one side of the printed circuit board, the second fuse on the opposite side.

FUSE 1
Is for the control circuit, clock, keypad, and light. Small amperage.

FUSE 2

Is the power fuse. Magnetron, turntable and fan. You must use absolutely the same exact rated and type fuse as a replacement here. I had a Mexican customer whose fuse blew with regularity every 6-9 months. I wired in a pushbutton resettable 15-amp breaker to replace the power fuse. I talked to Javier a few months ago. The unit is still performing RESTAURANT DUTY 19-years later.

There is actually nothing special about microwaves in RVs except for the mounting bezels. What's a microwave cost these days? $60. Just buy a new one.

It can be any number of things wrong with a 15 yr. old microwave. I'd suggest you start shopping for a new one.
