Refrogerator Problem

Our Norcold 1200 fridge will not run off propane or generator. Workds fine on shore power. Had this problem last year; RV fixit guy checked it out, said it was working fine. Nopo.

Any suggestions? Still considering switching out with a residential fridge.

Got the unit back yesterday. Fixit folks replaced all four batteries; replaced the Xantrax Freedom 458 inverter. Apparently the issue with battery charging and also with the fridge are inter-related. I am checking the unit now to make sure everything is working as it's supposed to.

Yeah, when they break, what is an evil witch to do with a handsome prince.

Seriously, though. Sounds like maybe you only have 12v to the control circuits on shore power. Not sure why that would happen but as said Shore A/C and Generator AC should be the same. No 12v when on battery would stop propane from working.

Why would a bad breaker in your inverter keep your fridge from working on propane?

I would think a bad breaker would stop providing 110V to the fridge, but could still be providing the 12V it needs to run on propane.

But, you should have this problem on shore power or generator.

And, you can easily test by testing for 110V at the refrigerator plug, and by flipping the breaker to ON.

On shore power or generator power, with the fridge breaker ON, you should have 110V at the power socket where the fridge plugs in.

On my rig you can access this socket behind the outside access hatch.

All I know is what the Fixit Guy told me. As I have stated before, when it comes to issues such as this, I am an excellent wood worker.

Sorry, but that makes no sense. Why would a bad breaker in your inverter keep your fridge from working on propane? The inverter should have nothing to do with your fridge. Your inverter should be in pass thru mode when on shore power or if the generator is running.

The inverter may indeed have a bad breaker, but replacing / repairing that will not solve your fridge problems.

RV Fixit guy says I have a bad breaker in the inverter. That is what is causing the fridge problem. Options are to ship the unit to Xanax to be fixed or replace it. I opted to have it replaced.

ALL you have to do is fire the Genset up, open up the rear Access door to the refer and plug in a 120 volt light or appliance to the 120 refer receptacle. IF the Appliance operates, your Transfer is OK. IF the Transfer was a problem 1/2 of your 120 electrical in the RV would be dead. Doug

"Refrigerator" is a copywrited trademark and can not be used willy-nilly. That's why I compromised with "refrogerator."

Anyway, gimmee a break. I'm just a poor Injun tryin' tomake his way in a white man's world, what with a mission school education and a reservation upbringin'. What d'ya expect anyhow.

Send me free stuff. Preferabley a new refrig..., ah, a new refrogrator.

RV fixit guy says it may be a transfer switch issue. Taking it in in a few weeks.
I think I got metric gremlins in the electrical system last time I went to Canada.

Could be a bad circuit board. We have had our work on electric and generator, but not propane. The circuit board was the problem. Replaced and all worked fine.

Your generator must have electrical issues.

No flame from propane could be many things.
could be blocked tubes between the tank and the flame.
Could be wasp got in
could be a bad regulator
or a sensor went bad
or the thermocouple is bad or bent
lack of DC power to fridge
blown fuse
blown circuit board
could be fridge is on the last leg - the AC power might make more heat than the gas flame (did you confirm you do not have a flame) and the flame is just not enough to do any good.
