Replacing 30 lb. propane tanks

I have to replace or recertify my 2 30lb propane tanks. Can't find anyone in my area that does 30lb tank swaps. Looking at new tanks, I have seen the Flame King tanks and the Worthington tanks. The W tanks are consistently $20 higher than the FK.

Any significant difference between the two ? Or have any other suggestions ?

Thank you in advance. (If wrong forum, please let me know. )

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea.

I have never attempted re-certification.

I have been refused re-filling due to expired date.

I thought about carrying a 20#er for a spare but it wont fit in the space where my 30#er fits. Buy one of those metal stamping kits and put on your own date. Have been refused also just take it down the street

That's just odd about no one doing the recert on propane cylinders. The first place I called said no problem. Propane business that 'sells propane and propane accessories'. Brought them in, $5 a cylinder for a ridiculous visual inspection and signed sticker. That's $5 for 5 extra years.

It's not a big deal if no one near you performs recertifications. I had the same issue. No one does it near me, not even surburban propane. (Nothing under 150# bottles). Ordered new ones from HD cheaper than CW.

I don't understand ALL the hoopla over having a recert performed :H
The hoopla is over the cost, not the details of the recertification. And whether that money would be better spent on brand new bottles. :R

I had my 30# tank recertified for $15 each and the propane was $1.49

I was able to swap 30s for 20s. Those 30s (7.5 gal) were getting difficult to lift.

I carry 4-20s (5 gal).

I bought mine at Lowes they had to order them about a week to get in. They were vacuum purged ready to fill.
The place that did recertification wanted over a buck more per gallon to fill plus recertified fee.
It was almost the same and I got nice new shiny tanks. I replaced the regulator also it was 20 years old time for upgrade.

Has someone actually refused to fill it?
Ask them to re-certify. Or go to a commercial propane distributor, not the corner gas station.

No.

And there are locations where 30# bottles can be swapped, however, they are far and few between. I did happen upon a place or two in my travels. Never swapped mine. I like to keep my own and have them refilled as needed.

Is the old tank having build-in gauge?
Those seem to be rare in RV and probably worth re-certify.
See if you can use this link to find location that does re-certify.
Other than that I would consider getting those swap-able 20 lb tanks.

Never cared for 30 pound bottles. You cannot change them out at any place that does tank swaps. I prefer the 20 pound bottles because one, you can change out and 2, the fit my Charbroil grill shelf just fine.

I' like Worthington bottles myself but it's what I have now anyway.
