Read an article that the new Menards being built in my town will have a self serve LPG filling island in the parking lot. The article described it as if you will connect and fill your own cylinders.

Ever see one? I haven't.

UPDATE:
Well, I did find a link. It specifically says "Self-serve Propane Filling Station"

Connecting underground blast to propane evaporation burn?
Than even you might have propane plants far away, don't you have tons of gasoline in tanks in the middle of the city? or village?
What you had for breakfast?

A thermobaric weapon is a type of explosive that uses oxygen from the surrounding air to generate a high-temperature explosion, and in practice the blast wave typically produced by such a weapon is of a significantly longer duration than that produced by a conventional condensed explosive. The fuel-air bomb is one of the best-known types of thermobaric weapons.

Most conventional explosives consist of a fuel-oxidizer premix (gunpowder, for example, contains 25% fuel and 75% oxidizer), whereas thermobaric weapons are almost 100% fuel, so thermobaric weapons are significantly more energetic than conventional condensed explosives of equal weight. Their reliance on atmospheric oxygen makes them unsuitable for use underwater, at high altitude, and in adverse weather. They are, however, considerably more destructive when used against field fortifications such as foxholes, tunnels, bunkers, and caves โ€” partly due to the sustained blast wave and partly by consuming the oxygen inside.

In Mexico, they learned the hard way. Most LPG plants are MILES outside city limits. I'm glad I am well away from folks who do not respect what a detonation will damage.

If that so, how-come sparkling forklift operator drove the machine on the yard where workers were bleeding half a million lb of propane?
OSHA cited for 6 violations, so it was not a single mistake.

An adult human, should be, mentally capable of doing an LP fill up safely
But...
In this multi tasking world, where everyone seems unable to function if not connected to all their peers, and unable to concentrate on doing one task at a time, the attention span deficiency, is a real danger
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I search google for that Tavares plant explosion and even it is called blew-up, the more than half a million lb of propane did not do much damage.
Cylinders kicked around, but no visible damage to building around and "only" 6 people hurt. Just like I witnessed on 1000 gal propane tank - propane due to required heat for evaporation makes self-controlling burn.
Imagine what half a million lb of gasoline would cost in damages.
Coming to self-serve propane fill ups - they seem to be done in Europe just fine, but with different valves technology .
Humans are naturally born screw-ups and if you don't have tipple safety measures - sooner or later something will blow.
Is the myth about cellphones possibly sparking ignition confirmed?

Sheesh, from reading the comments, looks like some folks took delight in torturing younger siblings in bed on Christmas Eve...

Nice commentary with the picture
But that is not Ralphs, not even USA

And not even a propane explosion... The photo shows the results of an alleged Taliban truck bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan.

It still illustrated the point very well. But for those who insist on authenticity:
