Surge protection for my rv

Do I need a surge protector on my 50 amp destination? I always use it on my own property and only in the winter in florida.

Yes but it will do nothing for a nearby lightening strike.

On private utility power? No. At least no more than for your private home residence.

During an electrical storm or hurricane? Best to unplug until the event has passed.

If spending money get a full EMS type that will detect and cut power for bad ground, high voltage, low voltage etc. not just transient surge protection.

I'd put a Progressive Industries HW-50c INSTALLED in teh RV if I were you.

I didn't think I needed one for our 96 Southwind. Then I had a lightning strike about 8 feet away.

Um? Do you have insurance on your house? It never moves either. Think of a surge protector as an insurance policy... good to have and hope it's never needed. Unseen to the eye, your power fluctuates all over the charts all the time. It's just never enough to really be noticeable.

I was plugged into low voltage last weekend. It didn't hurt anything, especially since we're not using air conditioning yet, and everything inside the camper is pretty much 12 volt, including the television. But the microwave, which normally pops a microwavable bag of popcorn in 1 minute 55 seconds too 5 minutes to pop. Had it not been for the pop-corn, we would have never known.
