I have a 2003 Chev Tracker ZR 3 which I am using for a tow car. I am in Mexico where I can get top notch mechanical work done for 7 bucks an hour and was thinking of having the timing belt replaced. Pancho my mechanic tells me it is not required and my Spanish is not good enough to understand why? He pointed to the hub in behind the fan and said no requardo?
An ex Class A with towed. Now Bungalow in Melaque.
One way to tell if you have a timing belt is this. If there is a "Plastic Enclosure" at the front of the engine that goes from the bottom of the engine to the top, it is a timing belt.
Timing chains are inside a "Metal Enclosure", as they are lubricated with oil and must be sealed.
Is your mechanic trying to tell you it has a timing chain and not a timing belt? I'm not sure but, I thought they had chains. I was looking at one a few years ago.
