Do you have any idea how much sulfur was in a gallon of gasoline back then? And how much of it mixed with onshore flows, and fog, making sulfuric acid floating around in the air we breathed? Even a shallow breath lung full of that******stung and hurt like hell... as a kid in the San Fernando Valley, you could forget about recess in the early 1970's or going and playing a game of football after school, eyes burned and noses, throats and lungs too. And that was growing up on the clean side, the west end of the SFV, the side the onshore flow came from, it got much worse by Reseda, Van Nuys, then North Hollywood. Even riding your bike home from Junior High 3 miles was an exercise in torture and pain on a bad afternoon, and there were lots of bad afternoons.

Yes and it took us 100 years to start the clean up that continues today. China is but 20 years into this.

People have to do what is needed to survive, and if it means pollution versus no food for their kids, they definitely are not going to choose cleaner air.

There is one good thing I can say about solar panels -- they have a long useful life, so after a while, they have obtained more energy than what was spent to make them, and panels can last for a long time.

Many folk have been hoodwinked into thinking solar panels are totally "green". They are far from "green", a lot of very toxic chemicals, gasses and other heavy substances are used in the process of making these panels.

It is one of the many reasons panels are expensive, it costs money to buy, safely store, handle, use, then dispose of toxic byproducts.

Another side effect of panel manufacturing is the ENERGY consumed in the manufacturing process, it takes a lot of energy to make them..

They are far from "green" no matter where they are manufactured...

No secret there. You must be aware why the Manila Galleon never discovered Hawaii.

Green a good thing - maybe, maybe not

I believe up until the late 90's it took more energy to produce a Solar panel than that panel would ever generate over it's expected 25 year life span
