What are the good quality bearings for a TT?

Timken or SKF are as good as they get? A frame shop told me few years the name of a good one made in Japan but can't remember the name.

This is the first time for me to be ordering bearings and seals for our TT. Do I just need the part number off our axles and go onto the bearing and/or the Alko's website? Do they come as a kit with nut, cotter pin etc?

A bit unclear on the info. on our axle sticker. Says axles are 4400 lbs and are T52D-H9. Alko's website says T52 axles are rated 5K lbs?

axle should also have a tag listing the axle weight rating and often a stamp as well.

Alko 5200lb axles normally have 12" brakes with 6 lug wheels, 4400lb Alko have 10" brakes and 5 or 6 lug wheels.

Also std ratings are 4400lbs and 5200lbs not 5,000.

the 4400 and 5200 lb axles use completely different bearings.

My 5200# Al-Ko axles have a label on them that says "Plant 52 (La Grande)" and under that the part number starts with "T52D ULFL" then lots of numbers. At the bottom of the label it clearly says "Capacity 5200#"

My guess is that T52D refers to the plant number, not the weight rating.


When you replace the bearing, don't you replace the race as well?

I've re-greased bearings and replaced the seals, but never replaced the bearing and races. Getting the races in/out properly sounds tricky to me.

I see etrailer.com and Google/utube have lots of info on it.

maintenance is much more important, most bearing in axles are probably made in china so don't lose any sleep over what bearing you buy. etrailer.com can help you too.

My SKF bearings were made in Japan.

Also please provide a link that shows Timken trailers bearings are made in the USA.
Google pretty much says China.

Please elaborate on how thousands of trailers are on the road with Chinese bearings and they are not sitting on the side of the road smoking from overheating. Many in fact, probably do not get even yearly inspections.

Please do tell us how they are junk?

BTW-do you shop at Walmart-Have a smart phone? How about a flat screen T.V.? They are all Chinese junk. Must have the same performance as you claim the bearings have.
