I checked the codes on the truck and two came up, One was Underboost and the other was overboost. I can turn the truck off and then back on and the trubo is fine. Im having to replace the glow plugs this week as to #8 is out. Im really just curious of the Turbo is on the way out. Thanks for the help.

It does sound like the sticky vanes. I also believe ford had a ecm update that would operate them to help prevent the sticking. I had one with the issue and they replaced it under warrenty, but since then I believe there procedure is to just clean them.

It does sound like you have dirty turbo vanes. Since the Ford's are variable geometry instead of fixed vanes they are susceptible to soot build up if not exercised and may freeze up. Allowing your engine to use boost occasionally will prevent this problem.

I have heard of more issues for those that over fuel with an aftermarket controller, so avoid overly rich settings if you use one.

As said, the turbo needs cleaning. There is a unison ring that is controlled by a solenoid that opens and closes vanes in the exhaust section of the turbo, and that is how the level of boost is controlled. It makes the turbo act like a small turbo at low RPM and like a large turbo at higher RPM. If you feel like doing this yourself just google clean 6.0 turbo and you will get lots of instructions. I just changed out the turbo on my 6.0, it had rusted up inside due to lack of driving it all winter. Cost about $1,100 and about 5 hours of my time. If you do clean or change the turbo, there are upgraded oil hose and drain tube that are highly recommended.

You just need to take it off and take it apart and clean it. I have to do mine once a year. If it goes into an overboost for a long pull the truck will go into limp mode. It sux pulling a load and trying to climb a hill and only have 2000 rpm and no boost to work with. ๐Ÿ˜‰
