I have read a lot about what this truck can tow and shouldnt tow. I have a 2013 f-150 4x4 5.0 3.55 screw with short bed that i bought to go back and forth to work. My aunt is selling / giving us her 2012 Amerilite 255bh ( dry weight 5000 or less ). its a nice little camper. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks about this set up?

Thanks,

You will have no problems with that trailer. Use a good WDH.

Yeh, you didn't have tow gears with that truck, that's why. The 4 speed auto was already anemic with it's poor gearing. For any decent tow rating, you needed the 3.73 gears. That trans sucked so much power out of that motor, it's hard to see why they didn't kill that trans early on. Even the Super Duties got a 5 speed trans that was geared better. Ford didn't kill that Trans until 2011. They kept that trans for the low powered 4.6L 2V engine in 2009 and 2010 while the 4.6L 3V and 5.4L 3V got the excellent geared 6R80 6 speed auto trans.

I had a 2010 Screw 5.4L 4WD with 3.55 gears (9600 lbs tow rating)and it towed really good but no where as good as my 2012 with 5.0L with 3.73 gears (9300 lbs tow rating). The new 5.0L is a made to tow just like my link states in my signature. The 5.4L is weak next to the much more powerful 5.0L especially when towing.

You should be fine. That's a low profile, narrow, light travel trailer. Just make sure the ceiling height is alright for you. It was to low for me so we had to pass on them. Even if you have the poorer 3.55 rear end, you should be OK as you'll still be under your towing capacity. Looked at that model before I bought my Jayco.

With a half ton, the first thing you need to do is determine the cargo capacity of your pickup. Look on the drivers side door frame and find the yellow sticker. It has the cargo carrying capacity of your pickup. From this, subtract the weight of your passenger, Any after market add on, such as a cap over the bed, etc, any cargo you will carry in the truck, both in the cab and in the bed, plus the tongue weight of the trailer and the hitch head, which can be considerable depending on the WD system you choose. This will tell you if you're over loaded or not.

1/2 tons typically run out of cargo capacity well before they run out of towing capacity.

Screw = Supercrew

That truck is a good fit for that trailer.

It's a 5.0 V8, 3.55 gears and a Super Crew.

I have the same truck and you will need to look at the payload....that is were our trucks run into issues. A weight distributing hitch and loading the trailer and weighing it on a scale should put you in good stead.

Weight your truck with you and wife and what ever you would being packing in your truck.

Go for it. You have the 6sp with the lockout feature. That will keep the trans form hunting. Plenty of power in the 5.0. 5000lb dry, and maybe 6000lbs loaded is comfortable for a 1/2 ton. Enjoy.

It goes without saying that the best thing you can do is check your truck and trailer weights on a scale. It's kind of a pain, but well worth the peace of mind. But... with the information you give on the truck and trailer, you should be fine. I would have kept my setup of similar weight and size but our 2 year old brings way too much stuff ๐Ÿ™‚
