100% agree Ben! I hope that GM comes out with a true HD Suburban with a proper receiver, proper axles, proper cooling, proper suspension, etc. I can handle the SemiFloat rear axle...would still prefer a FF but I understand that a Semi float can be made really strong and is much easier to service. Still not my preference.

The 1500 Sub I rented had a great front suspension but the rear was to bouncy, not sure if was the springs or shocks. But for my sanity I would make changes to the rear suspension to get it to settle down.

Let's hope the 2500 addresses that issue.

A loaded up 2015 Suburban 4WD has about 1450 pounds of payload which is up by about 75 pounds over the GMT900 half tons. I have not heard about the 2015 Expedition EL payloads. First member with the SWB had under 1400 pounds. ๐Ÿ˜ž Expy EL Ecoboost with 1800 pounds of payload would be sweet!

The 8.6K GVWR sits higher than the 7.xK GVWR Suburban because the frame is about
2 inches taller and the suspension is also of higher ratings

Wish there was a +9K GVWR Suburban. I'd seriously consider trading/selling my Sub
for that...must have a decent gasser too. Truly wish for a big block...but am in
the minority

Like APT says, an iron block 6.2L would be the bare min for me.

Why I'll keep mine till the wheels fall off

As for a possible 8.6K GVWR Suburban...a wonderful indication that there is hope
for the marketing folks at GM's SUV division

But...it will most likely be too 'car' like for me and again, am in the vast minority there

Another way to tell, albeit difficult, is to check out the diff pumpkin, but with
the spare down there it is tough to see more than just the lower portion

Betcha GM will keep that POS receiver. Have figured out HOW2 install a traditional
receiver, but none of the folks I know who has one is willing...as they don't
tow heavy

My wish list: A 2500 Suburban 8 spd w/ 4.5 Duramax, with 2500# payload and a 12k tow rating. I'd pre-order one of those right now!

Probably the only way we don't go Expy EL Ecoboost for our next family hauler is if GM makes this truck!

Any guesses or a way to find out what the ballpark payload capacity would be for a 2015 1/2 ton Suburban with the NHT Max Trailering package?

Just curious. I'll be keeping the 3/4 ton Burb for a while now, but sure would like to find something in a few years that could get me back up to the mid-high teens in mpg along with having some more creature comforts than what our 2004 Suburban LS has.


Yes I do. Here is the payload sticker from a 2 WD 2015 Suburban LT I rented about Two months ago.



The NHT package should give comparable payload numbers if not more. I would guesstimate in the 1600-1800 lb range... I am not sure about your 2500 suburban but I have seen 2500's with payload numbers just a few hundred lbs more than this.

A comment was made about the integrated receiver. Just for kicks, here is a pic of the receiver from the same 2015 Suburban rental






@ APT...those wheels are 3/4 ton truck wheels. Note those funny lug nut caps are not production or even matching covers for those wheels. This is an 8 lug suburban.

You cannot tell how many lug nuts are on it:



On the last two generations of GM SUVs the only visual difference was the wheels/lugs for 3/4 tons. They do sit about 2" higher than the half tons, but that is not noticeable unless the half and 3/4 are next to each other. The tires in the spy pic appear to be the same as GM used on mine which are more aggressive tread than the half tons wore. FWIW, the 3/4 ton Suburbans have not used the same wheels as the HD pickups. The bolt circle was different.

I hope GM is working on a more powerful gas motor. Maybe an iron block version of the 6.2L. The 2014+ 5.3L has almost identical power as the 6.0L since about 2007. While the power is fine from the 6.0L, the competition has greatly exceeded it.

The picture sure looks like 6 bolt to me. I had a chance to drive a 1/2ton p/u with the 4.5 while I was still working. It was sweet but at $1.25 or so a gallon difference for diesel right now I don't think it would be my choice.

Cummins, I would for one... I don't need or want a dually or a truck bed. Been there, done that, for me they don't work. Plain and simple. The people hauling and enclosed cargo area is much more useful to me. For the dirty stuff I have a utility trailer that's much lower to the ground and easier to load.

A diesel would be sweet in a 3/4 ton or HD Sub. Just speculating but 275-300 hp and 400 ish lb ft of tq.... 10,000 lb trailer tow rating.. Pretty sweet.

Right now the closest is the Expedition with the HD trailering package. Not sure how much payload that gives though.

On edit...looks like GM does offer an NHT Max trailering package for the 2015 suburban... Good deal!

Article stated GM is considering "dusting off" the 4.5l V8 Diesel. With the way the EcoDiesel is selling (and it's profitability), I would be amazed if GM did not follow suite. They already have teh 2.8 in the Colorado.
