9,200 BTU AC and 2000 watt genny

DH and I are considering a generator for our truck camper. I called Wise Sales today and talked to a woman and she told me that it would be on the edge. She said that with the AC and the inverter in camper running, it wouldn't be enough generator using a 2000 watt. I could of swore that I read here that some people do it. We always camp with hookup but was considering the beach or in my elderly parents yard. Our AC is a Coleman Mach and I emailed company to make sure of the btu. Any thoughts? Yea, I know how rude it is to run one close to camping neighbors so I can do without those comments. Just sayin....

I can assure you the ac is louder than the generator. At least mine is.

I'm totally happy with my Coleman Mach 3 power saver 11KBTU. It blows like snow even on low and runs on the Honda2K no problem. If I remember correctly, it pulls right at 1000 watts on low in 90 degree temps. It has never tripped the circuit.
That leaves plenty of wattage for the fridge and a few other light useage items.
I generally don't run the AC unless the batteries are near full.

As mentioned, you should look up the model on the airexcel website and see what amps/watts it pulls at normal temps./vs desert temps. I believe 95+ is considered desert temp. That's the important one. you don't want to be out in blistering heat and not have the generator keep up.

I think you mean Mach 1 power saver , 11000 btu .
I have one too , runs on Honda in eco , its as good as it gets these days, its 9.5 amps

Or maybe you did mean Mach 3 PS , its a 13000BTU and runs at 10 amps

The Polar cub has been out of production for awhile. The new ones are Colman-Mach and Colman-Mach cub. Check your literature for your tech specs or get you part number from inside the inner cover and plug it in here at RV comfort for the specs. Their customer service is great should you need info about the old Polar cub or the new mach cub depending on what yours turns out to be.

I am not a HVAC tech but this is what I learned when I recently researched, bought and installed my RV AC unit. Somewhere around 2010 air conditioner manufacturers phased out R22 and started using r410a. r410a runs at a higher pressure. I was at one of the largest RV dealerships in Las Vegas and I told them I was trying to buy an air conditioner that would operate with my Honda eu2000i generator. The short answer was, "not gonna happen in Las Vegas when you really need it during summer heat, you need more power. It will run it when temperatures are cooler but not during our summer". Plus low power equals short air conditioner life.

The low amp leader is not the Mach 8 9200, it's the Mach 1 PS 11000. If you check the amp draw, it beats the Mach 8 9200, previously known as the Polar cub.

I have one of the newer model of mach 9200's (maybe not the newest though) it's higher draw mach 9200. I can run it most of the time with my Honda 2000. I say most because I did have problems once. I think my batteries were low and the charger was working harder. I was able to run it by switching off the breaker to the charger. I couldn't run it with the Champion 2000w though. Below is my original forum post.

Have the 9200 on my 2008 Lance 1055 and run it with the Honda 2000. Never had a problem.

Hmmm, when did they stop production on the "Polar Cub"? Bought mine new last July. Maybe a left over? It also isn't the very newest super energy efficient model either I guess. But, for us anyway, it works just fine. Hate it when something is affordable, works well, then is abruptly discontinued. Big sigh.

Aprox . pre-2010 model =about 8.9 amps
next model still called PC had new "green" Freon =11.5
last year now called Mach 8 cub - two motors- =11.7

We both have camplites , do you have the Coleman Mach AC? I want to stay light weight with genny and don't mind not running stuff along with a genny. I also assume we have same converter also. I guess I don't want to spend a bunch of money especially when it will be used sporically. We have a huge generator here at home we use during hurricane season if needed, that thing is loud and HEAVY! DH always checks our battery in camper before we head out someplace, just in case it needs charging. So that is done and really no need to charge battery with genny. I will quit rambling now....
