Age changed our travel method.
We have changed from owning truck campers to a Travel Trailer. The reason is physical limitations brought on by age. We have had nine truck campers since 1966. It has been 47 years of great experiences. Finally. 80 years of wear prevented my knees from using the cab over bed. I need a walk around bed.
We bought a Lance 1885 after researching lots of TTs. It seemed to be the best built of the lot. Time will tell. In general, my observation was that trailers are not as well constructed as truck campers. That led me to the Lance offering.
We wont be able to get into remote boondocking places like we used to. The trailer requires much more time setting up and departing stuff than the TCs. I decided to tow with our 2011 Toyota 4Runner. We have made a couple of test trips and found the Toyota to be adequate, not as bad as I expected. We still have our "real truck" which is a 2008 F450 for when I become impatient with the little truck performance. Our son and family have used the F450 to tow their trailer. When I asked how went with the trailer, he replied, "What trailer?".
On June 23 we drove to Rifle Gap State Park near Rifle Colorado.
The "gap" where there is a dam.
The reservoir with campgrounds on the far side.
The sites are far apart with concrete pads. everything is well maintained.
My DW, Margot, enjoyed the electric awning until wind came up.
At sundown the hot winds drove us is into air conditioned comfort.
In the morning we drove a short ways to Rifle State Falls Park where we walked a couple of hundred yards to the delightful falls. The hike was easy for my new knee and my bum one.
Rifle Creek is a spring fed stream the maintains 58 degrees F all year long.
The tropical atmosphere around the misty falls makes for interesting detail photos.
