Since I am now a new Dually truck owner would like to hear fellow DRW truck owners thoughts on tire rotation. Read on many truck forums that many owners do not rotate tires and some that do rotate...Opinions please.

2005 Dodge camper stays on all the time & I have never rotated the tires. At 50K miles I look for new tires.

I rotate about every 10,000 miles. I don't cycle in the spare like I do on my Wragler rotation. Check your dealer versus a good tire shop. See what they suggest. Side note, my tire shop has me do my alignment with the camper on the back. With the extra weight, it makes a difference.

What is the basis for this statement, only 4 fancy wheels?

I rotate mine (when I do) per my earlier response. I routinely get over 50 thousand miles on almost any brand I have tried.

The original ones on the '99 were Armstong 16" 245/85LT tires. I didn't think of it as a great tire, one had what was described as a "slipping belt" and had to be swapped out for the spare within 10K miles. But they lasted until I feared for the sidewalls - when they are cracked enough that you can get a real good view of the cord, it's time. About 88K miles and 14 years in this case, no where near the legal tread depth markers. I replaced them with Michelin LTX. The LTX gave a better ride, but wander a bit more.

The new truck has 17" LT tires, General brand (which I guess is really Continental). At 220 miles, its early to tell how long they are going to last!

This is what my manual says on the GM's I've owned and with custom Alcoa wheels it means a total dismount and remount.

Cost me $80, I had a bad belt on a front so they rotated that to the inner passenger side.

Looks to me like the previous owner would buy 4 new tires and put the best 2 of the 6 on the inners.

My owners manual for the dually only showed rotation for non-directional tires as shown below on the left.

My winter tires have a directional tread and require a different pattern shown on the right.

If you do not rotate tires. It makes it easier to tell if the truck isn't aligned properly from the factory. Also with a ram the front wheels have to stay on front and the rear outside have to stay at rear, so you can only swap side to side in same position. Possibly swapping spare in with rear inside duals if you are interested in using it.

Appreciate everyone's input...Thanks...Jason4598, Do you rotate your tires?

My truck tires rot long before they wear out, so I never worry about rotation. Generally only put about 5000 miles a year or less on the truck. That may change if I ever retire.

you should always rotate your tires, make your tires last longer this will save you cash in the long run it will also help find any problems with steering ball joints etc. this will show up on tire wearing in uneven manner be Shure to check tire pressure a lot as this can cause uneven tire wear. Good luck,

Most dually pickups with aluminum wheels only have aluminum on the outside of the back (Fords are this way, at any rate). The book says to rotate them left to right. I never touched them on my '99 and finally replaced the tires at about 88,000 miles because the sidewalls were rotting. Plenty of tread left all around.

Now I got a brand new truck, same thing, aluminum on front and outside rear. Not going to touch them either. If I only get 80,000 before the sidewalls rot, I won't be sad.
