Surprised no one is doing more with the EcoBoost on this forum, as is popular with turboed diesels here. Perhaps the OEM EcoBoost is so good, it's already good enough.
Banks, for one, offers even more zip, though, along with readouts. Driving like Grandma, I am usually kind of a "keep it stock" fan myself, but added performance, and accompanying closer monitoring, must be tempting for many, especially the younger crowd.
TRUCKS Mag did a brief hotrod story.
As durable as these EcoBoost engines are, there must certainly be a little more performance margin to be had without compromising reliability too much. As an example, I suppose they are susceptable to "dusting the turbo" with overly porous K&N type filters, as are diesels. But higher quality filter units should be available, and ususally the ultra-clean stock paper filter is more than adequate. As with diesels, most of the added performance is simply had by program-bumping the boost, adding fuel delivery capacity if necessary.
