- PenManExplorerWe love our Open Range. My family has owned everything from truck campers to Class A's (including Holiday Rambler Motorhome, Winnebago Motorhome, Lance Truck Camper, Rockwood Roo Hybrid and others). I really think our Open Range is the best built of the group. I know they had some problems with the first couple of years models but they listened to their customers and corrected the problems from all I can tell. We use our trailer a lot and have only had two issues. We had a propane regulator go bad (replaced under warranty) and we did have a cabinet come loose from the wall. It didn't come completely off but I fixed it myself since we were out of warranty. Join the Open Range owners forum and if you have a chance to attend an owner's rally it is a great way to meet other owners. I have no connection with Open Range other than being a satisfied customer. One edit, we did replace the tires after one year but I would have done that no matter what manufacturer unless they used Goodyear LT's or Maxxis trailer tires.

I never trashed OR. Go back and read carefully. The dispute was with the new owner who refused to honor the warranty. Also I see someone else had an OR problem only theirs WAS with OR. Happy trails.
Mr. Camper never trashed Open Range and I had no intention of starting that kind of thread. I was just wondering what happened. I respect his inability to speak more on the topic. I'm glad they came an agreement to resolve the issue. Every company builds a lemon every now and then and someone usually ends up buying that lemon. I also heard that Open Range did build a few "thrown together" units just prior to their purchase by Jayco. - bfast54ExplorerFor what it's worth when I took an extensive plant tour last year and talk with one of the partners they became Highland Ridge RV That way they were a separate new company and Jayco. was just in-- fusion of Cash( they claim the Jayco has no control over them )..so that is from one of the horses mouth for what it's worth.:W

Open Range did not go bankrupt. They were bought out by Jayco, and are run by the original management team as a wholly owned subsidiary. They have always had a 2 year warranty.
I knew someone would correct any errors I made. If that's the case, wouldn't Jayco be on the hook for warranty repairs?
Thanks
My understanding is Highlandridge, the new subsidy Jayco established as the parent Co. of the Open Range line, honored all existing warranties. The 2 year warranties of the original Open Range units were honored until they expired.
However once the warranties of the original OR company expired.
The new Co., Highland Ridge did not assume any warranty liability for the original units.
In short there was no goodwill/extended liability afforded to owners of the original units. Once the warranties expired Highland Ridge assumed no liability for units built by the original Open Range Co. - Mr__CamperExplorer

I hate to throw a wet blanket over someones plans but please check previous posts on our 274 Open Range Light. Lots of warranty work issues and legal action threatened and eventually they paid us off to forestall legal issues. If you care check my previous posts on this problem or pm me for specific details. Best of Luck.
I searched and you have 15 pages of posts and I wasn't really able to find out much about your Open Range problems. However, what I did find looked like this. You purchased an Open Range from the the original Open Range manufacturer and 12 months into your warranty that company went bankrupt.
Some time after that someone (Jayco I think) purchased the Open Range line out of bankruptcy and you claim they refused to honor the warranty of the previous company that went bankrupt.
If that is wrong please correct me. If that is correct can you explain why Jayco should have honored the warranty you got from a bankrupt company?
I've had almost no interaction with Jayco or Open Range for any warranty repairs but am just curious what to expect if I do. I purchased mine after Jayco owned the line so I shouldn't have any issues regarding the previous bankruptcy.
It's my understanding that in bankruptcy proceedings all liabilities of the previous organization are terminated and the new owner is under no obligation to honor those claims. Perhaps Jayco/Open Range then provided you with a cash settlement simply because it was the easiest thing to do.
I'm really not trying to be critical, just trying to find out what happened without having to read thru 15 pages of posts that kind of look like the mods may have deleted some of them. Everything I hear from current Open Range owners says that the warranty service of the Open Range line is fantastic. Obviously you have a different opinion.
Thanks
PS-I did hear they got a bunch of bad Lippert frames sometime in 2012 or so and that they are having problems with cracks where the cross beams intersect with the main frame rails. However, it is my understanding they are making all the necessary repairs (with Lipperts help) to those units regardless of warranty status or when they were purchased.
As a poster mentioned OR didn't go bankrupt they were bought. Under the terms of the sale they were required to honor the warranty. I've said all I can say in public due to the agreement signed. If you want more information send me a pm as I can't say more in this or any other public forum. Also, look at my signature. We still have the OR. We love it and it's our 1/2 to 3/4 time home on wheels. For those who just bought an OR good luck and I hope you enjoy your unit. - hohenwald48Explorer

Thanks - rwessExplorerI have a 2011 Open Range Journeyer 337RLS. It is the 6th camper i have owned. I bought all 6 new. It has had more problems than the other 5 combined, and then some. I am planning on buying another camper in 2-3 years. With the experience that I have had, I would never consider purchasing another Open Range product.
Some of my problems have included:
-Replaced both heat pumps
-Numerous water leaks under the shower that flooded the underbelly.
-Awning almost fell off. Screws attaching awning fabric to the side of the camper were only screwed into the sidewall and no studs.
-Furnace air flow very weak.
-Air conditioner airflow in living room very weak.
-Glue on carpet from factory.
-Outside storage leaked around door.
-Bad leak around large rear window.
-3 of the "Open Range decals have fallen off.
-Clear coat on entire rear has disappeared.
-I sometimes get a sewer smell from the underside of the camper, I have not checked that one out yet.
-Delamination in the sidewall above the hot water heater.
-The entire sidewall opposite the campers door is "telegraphing" (this is what the factory called it). You can see the outline of the sidewall studs under the sidewall. This is due to the sidewall skin being too thin.
-Door does not close flush. Factory said it was the pneumatic door closers and replaced. Still does not close flush.
Like I said, I have had 6 new campers over the last 20 years. I am very aggressive on keeping the camper properly sealed and caulked. OPEN RANGE NEVER AGAIN! - PatReneeExplorerI agree with hoenwald48......Mr. camper is trying to trash a great company .... the product is of better quality then all the others we looked at....
- Semperfi_66ExplorerIm on my second one and am very happy with them no warranty issues except with awning and Carefree took care of They did not go bankrupt and they just announced a big expansion.
