Anyone gone from a Truck Camper to a Super C?

We plan on being semi-full timers soon and have been thinking about either a new TC/truck or a Super C.

Its a modified YJ for use offroad. It hasn't had a spare tire for years.

Yes he can. Removing spare wheel from back of the Jeep and mounting it on trailer tongue will add about 200lb on the hitch.
Once you start thinking, you will find several ways to make it.

He is probably tongue light with his Jeep in the rear. My enclosed trailer carries five batteries in a Power Armor box on the tongue and 84 gallons of fresh water forward of the axles.

His trailer is very long and the jeep sits right in the very rear of the trailer. I forget the brand name, but it is a very nice bumper pull trailer and is probably 38' (???) long, maybe more?

He needs to weigh the trailer and find out if it is out of balance. My 20' enclosed trailer pulls nicely behind my F250 and 5500 while hauling campers.

That is exactly what he bought and he hates to tow it.

If you go that route, you need a car hauler with living quarters rather than the convention RV style toy hauler. It will handle weight of the keep better resulting in better handling.

My buddy bought a bumper pull toy hauler/tt last year. He pulls it with a 1-ton drw with a jeep yj inside. He hates the way it pulls. I guess because all that weight in the rear of the trailer.

We keep going round and round about this decision; everything is a trade off and compromise. I think we are back to getting a new drw and new tc w/slide outs.

You are correct sir; as time goes by, getting in and out of that tc ain't gettin' no easier. :E

We've even started looking at these things. I guess we will eventually figure out how to haul everything we own to the campground. :R

Although I still have my 11.5 foot Bigfoot TC and often tow my Samurai, I now also have a great 19 foot Alpenlite. I have used it on several short trips, and honestly gotta say once at the campsite it is more comfortable than the Bigfoot. I use both with my 2004 Dodge DRW 4x4 Quad Cab. Although I really like the 5th wheel, I think maybe getting in and out of the bed of a TT might be more of an advantage than the manoeuvrability of the 5er. Old age changes priorities.

If it were my intent to part full time for long periods, I would consider keeping 3500 truck, 8' TC, and a TT Toy Hauler. Make the long haul with the entire setup, with the jeep in the TT Toy Hauler. After you setup, you could then either run the Jeep for short trips, or flat tow the Jeep behind the truck/TC for longer runs.

If I wasn't towing something, we would definitely go the short 5th wheel route.

I always notice that when choosing new RV, the safety is never mentioned.
I did lot of research years ago as traveling in family of 5 - safety was always on my mind.
When you drive a pickup, pulling a trailer you have full pickup safety cage (whatever it is worth as F150 are historically the deadliest vehicles on the planet).
Any designated RV has frame with ZERO crash or roll-over resistance.
That include even $400k DP.
ClassC will give you some protection in original cabin, but the cabin is cut, so the rating is lost.
Any passengers in the rear of ClassC seat in dead trap if something happens.

Within 3-5 years we are both retiring and starting to look at getting out of the frozen north during the winter.

While we are very happy with our current TC, staying in it for more than a couple weeks would be difficult. We want to have a place to sit in addition to the dinette.

Primary thinking right now- keep our current truck (5 years old with only 50k miles) and get a SHORT 5th or trade everything in and go to a class C.

When we were out in California we walked through 2 different Fox Mountain 5ths (made by AF) which are very short- their 235 or 255.

But the boss is thinking class c for the benefit of the walk through from driver's compartment to the RV.

Thanks, we're on B loop. Looking at the satellite photo, it looks like I may be able to back in until my wheels hit the curb and that may give me just enough room for our jeep crossways in front. If not, I will be looking for some place like that to park. I could have gotten a better site if I had made reservations sooner, but we had been focused on out jeepin' trip to Colorado and had not thought much about the fall until we got back.
